The first is Find and Mount.

This is probably the best free data recovery tool out there. If you have formatted a partition and need the data this tool may get it back for you and it's free.

Partition Find and Mount is absolutely free for personal use. However, the maximum speed of data transfer is limited to 512 KBytes/s which is enough for use at home.

So .5mb may mean you leaving it running for several hours to get your data off, but for free you can't complain and if you want it quicker then buy the software.

The second is the ODRI Data Recovery Tools:

Not too sure if the formatted tools are really any good, but the Deleted tools seem pretty decent.

You need to install each of the programs and then copy the exe and chm file for each plugin into the appropriate folder.

All four plugins are disable by default (providing I've not screwed up!!!) so you must enable them via ubcd4winbuilder.

To recovery data these plugins will need registering. I haven't found where this info is stored but it can be done on the fly with internet access, so you will need access to your email.

The 3rd is EaseUs Deleted File Recovery.

This is a stripped down version of Data Recovery Wizard so it won't recover from a corrupt hdd. However if the file has just been deleted it should get it back for you.

Install the program and then copy all the program files into the files plugin folder.

Glary Undelete

Download the software and install again, copy all the contents in program folder again and put it in the files plugin folder.

NTFS Undelete

This plugin now works via the contig option to download and update the program files.

Also previously I'd screwed up the webpage so if you tried downloading this plugin all you got was the glary undelete again. This has now been corrected.

ADRC Data Recovery

This tool does five jobs:

Undelete Files
Recover lost and deleted data from hard drives, floppy disks / zip drives, basic or dynamic volumes,compressed or fragmented files,compact flash, Smart Media, USB drives, MP3 Players etc..

Copy Files
Recovers files from disks with physical damage such propagation of bad sectors on disk.

Raw Copy
Transfers binary raw image from one drive directly to another. It is rather similar to the infamous "Ghost" function. Also performs a disk clone backup.

Image Backup / Restore
Create and write disk image files to and from hard drives and any removable media.

Boot Builder
Import or export the boot sector of a drive.

Download the software and extract the exe from the zip file, rename the exe to ADRC.exe.

MHDD is the most popular freeware program for low-level HDD diagnostics.

MHDD supports these interfaces: IDE, Serial ATA, SCSI. Also there is a possibility to access an USB storage, there are drivers for emulation (USB->SCSI).

CBL Data Shredder

The CBL Data Shredder is intended to eliminate the chances that information stored on your hard drive may be retrieved by anyone when it, or the computer containing it, is disposed of.

Our experience is that files thought to have been deleted years previously, containing personal details, bank account details, credit card numbers, correspondence, etc., can be recovered all too easily, and simply formatting the drive is not an effective means of rendering this data inaccessible. This situation is made worse by the availability of off-the-shelf products that will automate the recovery process in some cases.

When used in accordance with the instructions in this guide, the CBL Data Shredder program will do what file deletion and partition formatting cannot: erase the entire contents of a treated hard drive, rendering them irretrievable to existing and future software-based recovery tools.

Data Erase Methods

The CBL Data Shredder program supports a range of methods of erasing data, providing different levels of security and convenience. In general it would be true to say that each time a hard drive is overwritten, the chances of recovering any data from it become vanishingly small. (For examples of the sorts of hardware-based recovery techniques that may be attempted, please see the succeeding section).

The CBL Data Shredder program works by overwriting the entire disk with a pattern of bits. Wiping the disk with a simple (non-random) pattern once is known as clearing or erasing. It may still be possible, with specialist hardware, to read data off the disk.

More secure methods of erasing hard drives write more complicated or random bit patterns to the drive several times to effectively frustrate hardware recovery attempts. This is known as purging or sanitising. Certain of the erase methods available in the CBL Data Shredder program have particular characteristics that make them suitable for this task. These are explained below. It must be noted that some features of modern drives may make some areas of the disk inaccessible, even though they may have contained data in the past, and that these areas would continue to be vulnerable to hardware-based recovery. These are discussed in the following section.
