OK, someone please explain why this thread is listed in the "Posts since your last vist"?
Nevermind, I see someone "Voted" which bumps the thread.... Where's my coffee cup?
Would you buy a LCD to use at work?

I was confused and wondered the same thing first thing this morning. After my brain turned on a little and I was able to think I had the same realization. I have better excuses though I was not only suffering caffeine withdrawals, but I have a horrible cold too. I need to go back to bed, damn work.

It's a tie again. Hmmm and I still can't make up my mind.
I did use my 20" LCD at work for the past 2 months but ended up having to bring it back home yesterday. The wife needs it again and there was no way I wanted to buy another, can't afford it right now!! Plus I didn't react quickly enough at the $99 19" Acer LCD's buy.com had earlier today.
I thank everyone for their posts and votes so far and encourage anyone else to still vote.

I may be extremely weird, but I dislike LCDs.
The picture quality on them has not improved any since they were first invented, in my eyes. This comes from having worked with 17" LCDs of various year and manufacture while at work (from like 2001 through 2008 models) and finding that in total they suck entirely.
Fixed pixel count, poor text display, bad brightness levels on some of them, poor contrast levels, and the one pro everyone points to "smaller size" don't add up to better display quality (multisync), nearly unlimited resolutions underneath the "recommended resolution" that actually look readable, good small-text display quality, and a properly adjustable brightness and contrast that you get from a CRT.
Plus, the fact that these monitors, even in digital, have a noticeable delay between when seomthing happens and when it is displayed, even 5 ms, seems to be a bit insulting to gamers.
Oh yeah, and motion blur.
Count me out for LCD.

I voted YES, if it were not for our "downsizing" and the availability of already existing LCD's that I , ummm - "procured" I was planning to buy 2 for my self at my work.
If you DO buy a couple then make sure the boss knows about it and is cool with it. I would label the suckers as "PERSONAL PROPERTY OF YOUR NAME" so someone doesn't "borrow" them when theirs goes out and you're not around. One other thought is that what if the new LCD goes out? Will your old CRT still be available as a replacement or will it get shuffled of into inventory for a replacement? If you LCD fries and the old monitor isn't there will you have to fork out yet AGAIN to replace it? I'd tuck the old CRT under the foot well of your desk and keep it nearby.

The boss did mention to put a note on mine so none of us would forget. So we are set there. If it goes bad and is out of warranty, oh well. I don't have to replace it and we'll pull up a CRT if we have one. If not, then the boss would probably just bite it and pull out a new one.
It's pretty strange how our setup is at work. We each have 2 monitors for our work areas. I was the first with a LCD because I brought mine in. Then I put it aside for some reason but then needed another and decided that I deserved a new LCD. Plus I wanted the new one to replace the speakers on my desk, the ones in the LCD are crappy but I don't need them to be loud. I just want the space. Then the boss brought one from home in and I started using it. Then I brought mine back and gave it to his side. A few months later a CRT went bad and Tracy was having a hard time finding a decent CRT to use so I told him to grab a new one. I just told the boss that he finally deserved one. Luckily I get away with that stuff on occasion because I do extra things like run out to Staples to recycle our ink and pick up deals. We've made a bunch of money off the Kaspersky that we sell at the shop over the last 2 years.......was work on my end and suggestion to sell it. Then there are just other little things I do to save/make us money that I think helps make me a valuable employee.
So currently I have a new 19" and the boss's used 19". The boss is using my 20" LCD and a 17" CRT. Tracy has a new 19" LCD and old 19" CRT. Our other two work stations have one of my old 19" CRT's and one of our old 17" CRT's.
We are starting to get low on CRT's and I really hope that within a year we have a shortage!! I can't wait to get rid of those old clunkers, although I do have to agree with Gedrean a little. They do display a very nice picture, sometimes. I also on occasion run across a computer that refuses to show anything on a LCD so I have to hook it up to a CRT. Thanks for all the comments and votes!!!
