First time trying to build the .iso. Using XP CD from Microsoft eopen (volume licensing) but have also tried with Dell OEM cd and get the same result:

    UBCD4Win PE Builder 3.1.10a

CD-Rom name is: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD
    Microsoft Product Code: 76487
Product channel ID is: Volume (270)
    Source build: 2600
    Build process started

    Error: RemoveDirectory() "C:\UBCD4Win\BartPE\I386" failed
    Directory removed: C:\UBCD4Win\BartPE
    Building registry
    Copying file "C:\XPCD\I386\setupreg.hiv" to "C:\UBCD4WIN\BARTPE\I386\SYSTEM32\SETUPHIV"
Error: CopyFile() "C:\XPCD\I386\setupreg.hiv" to "C:\UBCD4WIN\BARTPE\I386\SYSTEM32\SETUPHIV" returned error 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
    Building done...
There where 8 errors and 0 warnings
Use the [<<] and [>>] buttons to jump to Error/Warning.

Have not yet uninstalled and reinstalled. Am not getting any interference from McAfee while running UBCD. Don't know what other program could be trying to access these files as I am running UBCD without any other programs open.

Any help will be vastly appreciated. Thank you.

First, just try building in safe mode... many protection programs can cause the errors you are reporting.

Another cause is from the Windows source files themselves which is common on Dell sources and others that have been altered some by the manufacturer... these are addressed in this faq http://www.ubcd4win.com/faq.htm#dell
Plan A is always more effective when the device you are working on understands that Plan B involves either a large hammer or screwdriver....

        hello Again,

not wanting to contradict Rdsok who is an expert in UBCD4WIN and Xp in general.

I found personally that if I removed the Bartpe directory manually myself

        it compiled without error.
give it a try you do not loose any thing
just cut and paste it to a temp folder for safe keeping !!
it will create a new one for you .

        Regards Ben
