Hi ForestTrek
The Files Dell and other OEM's usually modify to allow SATA drivers to load are \I386\TXTSETUP.SIF AND \I386\SETUPREG.HIV
can you compare the versions on your Dell XP CD and on \I386 on your Hard disk
(at command prompt fc /b path\file1 path\file2)
(The Dell Fix was developed for Dell XP SP2 and must be followed exactly. many newbys fail to follow all of the steps)
regards

Hi Mike,
I did the file compare and both pairs of files are indeed different on C:\I386 versus \I386 on the Dell XP SP3 CD.
So, that seems to verify that I copied a good version of these files over a bad version to make the BartPE builder work. Probably I could have just done the build from C:\I386 and left the Dell CD in the sleeve, and I would have been blissfully unaware and successful (unless there are other pitfalls when building from C:\I386 instead of a CD? I didn't look into that).
My Dell was just built in July 2009. Will the C:\I386 version of the above files in older Dell machines likely still be bad and need fixing per your FAQ (unlike mine), and thus, has Dell made a recent change to these files? Or, is the Dell C:\I386 version of these files most always a good version even in older machines? If the latter case were true, Dell customers should just ignore the XP CD altogether perhaps and start builds from C:\I386 only.
Thanks for the details on the files,
Steve
