Hi all. I'm new to this project and having some trouble. I hope someone here can help me.

I've built and burned a ubcd4win iso and so far, everything seems to work except for one thing. When booted from the CD, ubcd4win cannot access my Venus DS3 USB portable HD. It shows up in disk manager, but I cannot assign a drive letter to it and access it. When I try, it returns an error saying something to the effect of, "the drive is not enabled. To fix the problem, please reboot the computer." Which I have tried. Still no worky.

This is the last thing I need to get working. The plan is to use this portable USB HD to create and restore Acronis True Image archives in case of a system failure where the normal Windows XP OS cannot boot.

I hope I was clear enough about my problem, and that someone here can help.

    Thanks,
    N8

This is strange! normaly there are no problems, is you connect a usb drive before booting ubcd4win.
Did it work under normal windows?
      What partitions are on drive?

Hi Josh. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've tried it both ways. Connected before and after. And yes, it works normally under windows. There is just one primary partition on the drive. If there is any further information you need, let me know. As I am clueless as to where to go from here.

        Thanks,

Hey folks. Problem solved. For anyone else who may experience this problem, make sure your partitions on your USB HD's are logical partitions instead of primaries. Converted the partitions to logical on my portable USB HD's using Acronis Disk Director Suite v10 and now all is well. UBCD4WIN recognizes and accesses them without problems.

That's strange? I always use primary partitions and have never had this problem before. Glad you got it figured out though.

Yes is it strange, like PCUSER, I only use primaries as well...

Perhaps there was a minor corruption in the original partition/mbr that was corrected after the change of partition type.
Plan A is always more effective when the device you are working on understands that Plan B involves either a large hammer or screwdriver....

That may explain it. Perhaps I should convert one back to a primary and see if it still works.
