UEFI = Unified Extensible Firmware Interface
Replacement for BIOS - Windows 8

The UEFI is a more sophisticated system that runs before your primary OS kicks in. Unlike the BIOS, UEFI can access all PC hardware, including the mouse and network connections. It can take advantage of modern video cards and monitors. It can even access the Internet.

JERRY: Before we go any further, I'd just like to point out how disturbing it is that you equate eating a block of cheese with some sort of bachelor paradise. Seinfeld

One problematic issue with UEFI is that it is creating havoc among whole disk encryption schemes. Many well supported and reliable encryption products are not supporting UEFI at this time. UEFI seems to be the "nightmare" killing PBA authentication protocols.

If I had to pick I would stay with BIOS and WDE vs UEFI improvements and no WDE. My .02
