    New User here.
I downloaded the exe file and ran it with the install wizard.
Read the build instructions that tell me to make an XPCD folder and copy the files from an XPCD to it.
I have a Gateway 64 bit desktop model DX 4200-09 running VISTA HOME PREMIUM that didn't come with any software as it was pre-installed.
It has the option to make a two DVD RECOVERY DISK SET which I made but have not used yet.
I don't know if those disks will operated like an XPCD disk.
Anyway I can copy the necessary files directly to my hard drive?
I don't want to have to buy a Vista OS just to have a disk.
    Any advice is appreciated.

UBCD4Win can only be built with Windows XP or Windows 2003 as mentioned on the website. It doesn't support being built with Vista, Win7 or Win8.

BTW... check your manual, you can probably build a Windows install or recovery disk so you have a backup in the event that your hard drive does fail.
