I've just ran the bat file now and McAfee downloaded fine.

    ftp://ftp.nai.com/pu...superdat/intel/

This is the ftp location it's looking for. All I can think of is that it must be some sort of firewall or security software at your end blocking download.exe

Although it is possible that the ftp site was offline at the time, my only suggestion is to try the ftp location when you get the error message and double check it is online. If it is then its more likely some security settings in your firewall etc.... causing the problem.

Thanks. It was also the weekend, so the site may have been down or under high demand. I tried using the FTP in IE to access it as well.

I'll try it again within the next couple of nights and see. I haven't changed any settings on either my router or the computer I build the PAVCD on, and it had worked fine as recently as a week ago.

    Anyway, thanks for checking.

      Good morning everyone,
I'm still having issues downloading from Mcafee and TrendMicro so I'm manually updating the sections that get stuck. In piping the output to a text file, I found that the section for WinsockXPFix was having issues because both links are dead. I have found two other links that still have the exe file directly. Change this entry:

      if not exist %PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\WinsockXPFix.exe %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.aero.und....insockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\
      %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://members.shaw....insockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\

      to this:

      if not exist %PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\WinsockXPFix.exe %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.iup.edu/h...insockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\
      %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.comptutor.../WinsockFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\

this new fix worked for me.

More later if I find any more dead links.

Okay, I'll post all the stuff I find this time:

        1. I don't know if my bat file got corrupted, but you need to add this line:

if not exist Hosts mkdir Hosts

at the end of the section that checks/creates the dirs right after the Norton anti-virus download

and then cut this section from above teh Norton section:

        Echo Updating Host's File
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.zip /update /output:%PublicAV%\Security\Hosts\

to just below the dir creation section

        2. MS Malware removal tool has a new version so change this line:

Echo Updating MS Malicious Software Removal Tool
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://download.micr...90830-V1.15.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%/security/Winremtl

        to this:

Echo Updating MS Malicious Software Removal Tool
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://download.micr...90830-V1.17.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%/security/Winremtl

        3. Spydefense has been purchased or whatever by everest labs. The new line should be:

        Echo Updating Spydefense
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://spydefense.ev...wnload49282.exe /output:%PublicAV%\Spyware\spydefense\SpyDefense.exe

        4. KASFX.exe is one more level down; should now be:

        Echo Updating KASFX
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://www.tbgnetwor...grams/KASFX.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\WinTools\AVScan\KASFX\KASFX.EXE

(had to add Programs to the path)

        5. the ftp site for drweb-cureit is hanging and I'm still working on getting it to auto update.

6.AVG Free - I get this error when running the bat file:

        D:\PublicAV\PAVUpdat>d:\PublicAV\PAVUpdat\download ftp://ftp.grisoft.co...0free/setup/avg
        *.exe /update /newest /output:d:\PublicAV\WinTools\InstallAV\AVG\avg7free.exe

        Enumerating files in directory...

        FTP cannot enumerate files:
        200 Switching to ASCII mode.
200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.
        425 Failed to establish connection.

        0Bytes in 0 file(s) downloaded. 1 error(s).
        Done.

        Maybe ftp was busy?

        6. Data Recovery has bad link. The line should now be:

        Echo Downloading DataRecovery
        %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://tokiwa.qee.jp...Recovery_EN.zip /update /output:%PublicAV%\Wintools\FileRec\datarec\DataRec.zip
        %PublicAV%\pavupdat\unzip -j -o -d %PublicAV%\WinTools\FileRec\datarec %PublicAV%\WinTools\FileRec\datarec\DataRec.zip

Apparently, the tokiwa.tomato.ne.jp server is down or gone.

        7. The Antivir ftp site is timing out as well. I'll keep trying because I can see the files in my browser and can copy them from there so I know the files are okay.

At least for today, I have to manually update the following:

Mcafee, Norton, Trend Micro's lpt.zip, dr-web cureit, and Antivir.

        That's it for now.

Thx to stidyup for the continued help to all of us still using this.

        Nathan

I'll have a look at the bat file on Monday and see what works for me and doesn't. :)

            @ nwgray

Thanks for the info, I've now got a bit of time to work my way through it and make some changes the bat file.

Spydefense will be dropped as it doesn't appear to be supported any more, the forum doesn't appear to have anyone from the company involved as it's getting full of porn spam which no one is removing, so for me it's dead.

I'd be glad to help to offer any assistance you may need with the batch file. Between the PUblicAV and UBCD4WIN, I have a small toolkit to carry around. I'd like to give back to those of you that work so hard as volunteers.

              Thx

just checked it out. I still have probs downloading Mcafee, Norton, and Trend Micro lpt.zip file but this is probably on my side.

The link for cbackup isn't working:

                  Echo Download CBackup V1.5
                  %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://www.calvar.co...1.5/cbks1.5.zip /update /output:%PublicAV%\WinTools\backup\cbkup\cbks15.zip

tried to find it elsewhere but all links point to the url above. It just takes me to a blank page.

I'll keep trying it for a bit to see if i can find/download it.

                  Have a great day everyone!

                    I'll update it again tomorrow.

I think I'll swap cbackup for syncback. It appears cbackup has changed from when I last visited the site.

                    Quote

CBackup Standard 1.5 is a free automated backup software.

Which is from the license agreement, but it appears that this version is now paid for and the lite version on the site is just a waste of space and will only back up one file.

As for the mcafee/trend etc... issue it must because they are on ftp servers which is somehow causing you a problem.

                              @Stidy:

Could you take a look at the newest .bat files? I tried to update last night by adding the newest "PAVUpdate" subfolder and contents to my existing C:\PublicAV folder structure. Nothing updates because the files already exist, according to what I am seeing.

Also, is there a way to log the update? Many times I start the custom update and walk away to do something else. It'd be nice to have a log file that shows what was updated when the process is done.

                              Thanks for all your work!

If someone can tell me how to add a log file, I can certainly do it.

Did you get a message saying file exists and can't update, error 80 of something?

If so I had the exact same message today, it took me a while to figure out it was spyware terminator causing the problem, when I disabled the active shield it all worked. If you have this installed it could this causing the problem.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get the pav update up with the new MS Malicious removal tool updated.
