Update instructions for V3

Both ubcdupdater.zip and update.zip contain the freeware ISO burner BurnCDCC which we comes courteous of Terabyte Unlimited who specialise in partitioning, disk image backups, and boot manager software.



Updating the Anti-Virus and Spyware software on the UBCD4Win

The Anti Virus/Spyware software featured on this CD are constantly being updated with the latest definitions to detect new virus's/spyware. Unfortunately it isn't practical to keep updating the ubcd4win download files each time a new virus is found as this would mean producing a new download file several times each week if not daily, plus you would then have to download another huge file. Therefore it's simpler and easier if you keep the Anti Virus/spyware software up to date yourself and rebuild the ISO file as and when needed.

Here are the instructions on how to do it. If you've just downloaded the UBCD4Win see option 2.

This is important if you can't access the web whilst using UBCD4Win and update on the fly.

The Quickest Way

Option 1
This method requires that you have already run UBCD4WinBuilder and created a ISO file and left the BartPE folder (which was created by UBCD4WinBuilder) on the C drive (if this is your location) after UBCD4WinBuilder has finished creating the ISO. PLEASE NOTE this method will not work if the plugins themselves have been updated (ie changes to the inf/xml files etc...), you will NEED to do a full REBUILD using UBCD4WinBuilder if this happens.

Run ubcd4winupdater.bat found in this download ubcdupdater.zip this will update all the AV's and Spyware defs found in ubcd4win and build a new ISO in your working folder ie c:\ubcd4win\updater the ISO would be found here c:\ubcd4win\updated.iso Extract the zip file into your working ubcd4win folder, it should create a folder called updater, run the following bat file ubcd4winupdater.bat

Drag and drop your working folder by explorer or type it in. ie if your working folder is c:\download\ubcd4win then you would need to type this in or drag the folder from the left pane of explorer into the dos box it will then automatically add the location.

Once finished BURNCDCC will automatically open ready for you to burn the ISO image to CD. Simple, Easy and fast.

Option 2 is to build the entire ISO from scratch using UBCD4WinBuilder, after you have updated the plugins folder with the latest Anti-Virus/Spyware definitions or program updates. Click on the plugin button, and select AV personal <CONGIF- to update> then press the config button, the updates will then be downloaded for you. <CONGIF- to update> this needs to be done for all the plugins with this option scroll down until you have done them all.

OR

Download PluginUpdate and this will update all the defs in one go. Just double click UpdateDefs.bat and wait until the update process has finished.

Now simply run through ubcd4win build process with PEBuilder, and burn the ISO.

Option 3
Download update.zip

Create a folder on C called ubcd4win

Copy all files off the windows ultimate bootcd into c:\ubcd4win

Run DownloadUpdates.bat this will download all the necessary updates and extract the appropriate files into the correct folders for you.

Then double click UpdateUBCD4Win.bat

This will create an iso file located C:\updated.ISO, BURNCDCC will automatically open the ISO file ready for burning to CD.

Download the latest version from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and save into the plugin and overwrite the existing file, make sure you rename the file to stinger.exe if it has a different name..

Trend Micro
Easy simply run getsysclean.cmd from the ubcd4win plugin folder to download latest sysclean.com and virus definitions.

I found an error when attempting to run ubcd4winupdater.bat. The error was "the system could not find the path specified". This error is caused by statements in the BAT file that point to "볔Win%\updater" path. I put the UBCDupdater .zip file in my working UBCD4WIN folder and used extract here. The folder created when using extract here in my UBCD4WIN working folder is actually "UBCDupdater". I had to modify the BAT file to "볔Win%\UBCDUpdater" and then everything worked OK. The updated ISO was created OK but BurnCDCC did not run because of the same issue. None of the virus defs, etc. were updated because of this error.

OK. I reran everything with the correction to the BAT file I mentioned above and the update ISO was created and BurnCDCC launched properly. Good job Stidyup.

I've just updated the file, I was working in a folder called updater but helpfully renamed the file something else.

Thanks Stidy - it looks to be a nice set of solutions.

I'm having problems though downloading any of the zip files. I've tried both mirrors, and checked/double checked the obsfucated security alphanumerics that have to be typed in. Every time t hough I get directed to a page that says "Download-session invalid. Please click here."

Any idea how I can get the files?

A little hint:

If you interrupt download.exe, there is a incomplete file, but the timestamp is ok.
So if you use the "/update" switch, download.exe will not do the job again the next time.
Seems that the size is not checked, just the name and date.

The ubcdupdater (Option 1) has been updated.

It will now use mkisofs.org to produce the ISO, additionally it will now extract and rebuild the 7zip AV7PE file with the latest AV defs. Before the update the latest defs where put in the update folder.

I am interested in the updater downloads, but both the rapidshare and megaload website say I have to pay to join before I can download the file(s). Is this correct, or am I missing something here?

Scroll down the page for rapidshare & press the "Free" button. Then wait a few seconds for the "Download Ticket"(Timer) to reach zero & select the server you wish to use.
