I agree fully with your reasoning.
There isn't one antivirus that will catch everything.
This is where the great potential of bootCD's come in.
Instead of having a whole bunch of AV's installed on your system (Only one resident at a time).
You can now get the same benefit, without bogging your system down, simply by doing
"follow up scans" from the PE enviroment.

I use AVG on my personal computer, and i'm not gonna dump it because it missed a few
    malwarez here and there.
Staying away from IE, and using good browsing habits, is almost as good defence as
    any antivirus out there.

I use AVG Free on my own PC and I don't think I'll give it up anytime soon.

I'm sure you probably didn't know this but rdsok is also a mod over at the AVG Free forum (with over 20,000 support posts) and knows his business so advice from him in this area is gold.

        No, I didn't know that.
Good thing I didn't badmouth AVG then hi hi
Actually I've only had positive experiences with it.
It has helped me clean out infections from several machines in the past.
I also have it in my "arsenal" on my other bootCD's.
Low on resources to if you use it as resident scanner.

                    Hallo all,

We use Antivir plugin very often. Now I have the problem, that after start scan he says:
'The SpecVir.dll could not be initialized!'

I have no idea what to do. Please answer as soon as possible.

                    Thanks in advance.

AntiVir made a change in the program that will require us to rebuild the plugin. Expect to see an update in the next UBCD4Win release.

                        Hi All,

I have finally got AntiVir updated and working without the SpecVir.dll problems :-

                        1) Download the latest av defs file
                        2) Download the latest setup file

                        3) Extract the AV7PE files to .\AV7PE (run av7pe.exe)
                        4) Unzip the av defs file [1] and replace ONLY the vdf files (to .\AV7PE)
                        5) If your licence has expired extract the hbdev.key file(to .\AV7PE) from the latest setup file [2]

                        6) Delete the file av7pe.exe
                        7) run "7za a -sfx -r AV7PE.exe AV7PE"
                        8) Delete the folder .\AV7PE

I have built and tested this using VmWare player

                        Enjoy

I downloaded the latest file from the Antivir website which is named antivir_workstation_win7u_en_h. I opened it with Izarc but I don't see a file named AV7PE. How do I get the AV7PE file?

AV7PE.exe is the self-extracting file that is part of the plugin itself...

I downloaded antivir_workstation_win7u_en_h.exe and extract it with izarc. Then I replaced the vdf files and the hbedv.key in .\AV7PE.
I did other points as discribed.

                                The specvir.dll problem remaines.

                                What did I wrong?
                                Could you offer your AV7PE.exe????
