I am curious how Bart's PE handles the XP boot logo. I'd like to change it. I have a compied ISO of MiniPE (by digiwiz), and changing the ntoskernel.exe doesn't seem to have any effect. The boot logo has to be loaded somewhere.

Anyone know how I can find the executable that holds the logo? I'm pretty sure its just loading with a different .exe than the defaults... However, I have no way of knowing exactly which file this is...

So does anyone know where the loader file is determined?

The indefatigable "master of links" has once again come to the recuse. I wrote that post about 2 years ago, but figured that, since it would take any one of us a few keystrokes to find it, those keystrokes might me better spent on your end, learning the search function and it's nuances. DG bailed ya out this time... as I mentioned, the Jedi Master of hyperlinks he is. (IMG:http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/starwars/star-wars-smiley-007.gif)

And while general PE builds are fine to talk about, miniPE is not OK to mention "anywhere" as it is a "personal" build.

well, i searched for "boot logo" and "splash screen"... didn't come up with many useful returns.. I guess its all in the wording.

I know about the miniPE stigma (due to copywrighted stuff). I didn't think it was a problem to mention since I wasn't asking for where to find it or anything... You do, after all, have it below your avatar. I do like the compilation, its very useful and a good compliment to my stack of boot CD's.

Thanks for the link btw..

I think some precise instructions might help others change the logo more easily... Here they are

1) Download Sherpyas boot screen changer
http://winpe.sourceforge.net/plugins.php
-download the cab file, it has a premade exe in there

2) Download XnView
http://perso.orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enxnview.html

3) Get a desired boot screen, and convert it to a 16 color (4bpp) bitmap using XnView. Use the options tab when saving to select RLE compression.

4) Use sherpyas boot screen changer to modify the Bootvid.dll

5) Rename bootvid.dll to BOOTVID.DLL

6) Replace the BOOTVID.DLL in the I386\System32 folder in your BartPE folder (the folder that the UBCD4WIN builder or bartsPE has made.

7) Make the ISO with the utility of your choice...

Let me know if I've forgot anything...

I found an alternate way of doing this...

Use gimp for windows
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

to change the file into a 16 color RLE compressed bitmap

Then use resource hacker
http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

to modify BOOTVID.DLL file

There are less steps involved with this.
