I'm still getting BSOD 0x0000007b after enabling lba and copying the files from a 2003 cd...

    Any ideas?

    Im getting the same

im testing with a kingston 1gig usb drive and a via c7

I get the boot menu, it starts to boot xp. You know how the windows XP logo and loading bar fade in on screen ? mine starts to fade in then freezes (you can only just see the logo cause it hasnt fadded in yet). THe lights stop flashing on the flash drive. then a few mins latter i get that BSOD 0x0000007b

Ive replaced the files from a windows 2003 r2 cd. and set my drive to LBA. Should RAMDISK.SY_ be renamed to RAMDISK.SYS ? (i didnt do this)

Any help would be awesome. as i used to boot from a USB cd drive but this no longer works in 3.11

You do NOT rename the files.
You can either replace the same name file in your source directory, or overwrite them in the output folder AFTER EXPANDING THEM. The *.SY_ is a CAB COMPRESSED file. From a command prompt you would type EXPAND RAMDISK.SY_ RAMDISK.SYS so the file will be usable to windows.

The "Fade in & Freeze" you describe sounds a lot like the ACPI problem with some older hardware, there is a setting for this in the usersettings.inf file.
To test, when you see "Press f6 for 3rd party drivers..." , press F7 and this will bypass the ACPI LAYER and may allow the system to boot, since we are dealing with usb problems to begin with, this may not effect your build but it may be worth testing.

Excellent that fixed my issue, however it now gets passed that and freezes after the windows loading bar as gone past a few times.

        Slowly getting there :)

If you flashed your bios and something went wrong... I'd suggest you contact the manufacturer to find out how or if you can correct it.

I've deleted your other post stating the same thing... please do not cross post your questions.

Thanks for these instructions - worked first time for me!

One question - how can I added Parted Magic to the boot menu?

I had a stab at this by copying the pmagic and pmagic.gz files to /syslinux/images/pmagic and then adding the following to SYSLINUX.CFG:

              LABEL partedmagic
              MENU LABEL Parted Magic 1.9
              TEXT HELP
              Parted Magic Partition Manager 1.9
              ENDTEXT
              KERNEL /syslinux/images/pmagic/pmagic
              APPEND noapic initrd=/syslinux/images/pmagic/pmagic.gz root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=100000

But I get a kernel corrupt error.

              Any ideas?

There is a Parted Magic Multi-Boot plugin available already on the download page see http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm

                Extract into the Multi-Boot_003 folder

Yes I have that working, but this doesn't automatically get added to the bootable USB stick using the method in this thread (which in fact tells you to delete the images directory from the root of the USB stick). I believe syslinux is used instead of BCDW.

OK I got it working. Downloaded the latest PartedMagic (2.0) for USB and used the syslinux.cfg in there as a guide.

                    Copy the following into /syslinux/images/pmagic:

                    pmodules (directory)
                    bzImage
                    initrd
                    pmagic

Then the entry in syslinux.cfg is:

                    LABEL pmagic
                    MENU LABEL Parted Magic 2.0
                    TEXT HELP
                    Parted Magic Partition Manager 2.0
                    ENDTEXT
                    KERNEL /syslinux/images/pmagic/bzImage
                    APPEND noapic initrd=/syslinux/images/pmagic/initrd root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=200000 pmodules=/syslinux/images/pmagic/pmodules squashfs=/syslinux/images/pmagic/pmagic keymap=us liveusb vga=791 quiet toram

I used a standard OEM Windows XP SP2 CD (instead of a Dell version) and got the 0x0000007b BSOD while trying to boot a Dell computer. I copied the NTDETECT.COM, SETUPLDR.BIN, and RAMDISK.SY_ files from a 2003 CD onto my flash drive, and now it boots fine. However, there were several copies of each of these files.

Is there only a specific copy for each of the files that I am supposed to overwrite, or are you supposed to overwrite every copy of each of the files on the flash drive?

                        4. Build UBCD4WIN as you normally would. If you plan on using the windows recovery console make sure Multiboot is turned on and the recovery console option is enabled.

I'm a new user so forgive me if this question sound stupid... how do you "make sure Multiboot is turned on"?

After booting the UBCD4win, I've been trying to find the programs in Multiboot category, but I can't find them... as my build always doesn't show any multiboot option. So how should I turn ON the Multiboot? Please help.

Let me first say that this is a great program! My question is that when i try to boot my dell gx620 desktop the windows screen loads the poof bosd 0x0007 and i have allready copied the files over off the 2003 server cd any other idea what could be causing this? It loads fine up until it should load the shell then right b4 the shell should come up poof.

                          Thanks
                          Cavy

Well there are strange BIOS, more strange BIOS and Dell BIOS.
Some BIOS change USB configuration during USB boot.

If 2003 files fails, the next step is Dietmar's ntdetect.com.

I have been using the UBCD for a few months now and over the past few weeks have used the instructions on this thread to get it booting from a USB Flash Drive. Great job Dummptyhummty on putting this together.

**EDIT**I haven't looked at fixing it yet but it would be best to change the font color on the boot menu to black if possible, the white font on the UBCD4Win background makes it a bit hard to read.**

I am also interested in changing the font to be more legible on the boot menu. Has there been any developments on getting this changed? I suppose I could try to find a different background that makes the text more readable and then put that in the syslinux folder, but I am curious to know where the settings for the background and font color are.

                              ----------------

Also, I have been working on batch files that automate much of the tasks for updating the Flash drive once you have created a new build. I work in an IT department and our techs find this tool incredibly useful. I have been the one updating and maintaining the UBCD, but we found it annoying to burn a new CD every time I wanted to update the anti-virus definitions or include a new tool. I wanted to make it very simple for our techs to update their flash drives to the latest build without having to do all the little tweaks each time. It's pretty simple, but basically I have it to the point where I use the UBCD4Win builder and then run a batch file that copies all the files needed to a network share (drive letter s: in the code examples below) and makes all the little tweaks to the BartPE folder that are necessary. Then the user (one of our techs) just has to run a batch file from our network share that will prompt for the drive letter of the Flash drive, erase the drive (with a prompt of course), reload the latest files from BartPE, run Syslinux, copy over the Boot Menu Files, and clean out the unneeded directories and files from the root of the drive. They still use PeToUSB the first time to get the drive bootable and formatted to fat16, but every time after that they just have to run the batch file. They are still a work in progress but I thought I would post them in case anyone was interested. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions:

Updating Network Share with the Latest BartPE files:
                              @echo off
                              cls

                              :_EraseBartPE
                              echo Erasing old BartPE:
                              echo -------------------
                              s:
                              cd "its\Ultimate Boot CD\USB Drive"
                              rmdir /s /q BartPE

                              :_CopyBartPE
echo Copying BartPE to S: Drive:
                              echo ----------------------------
                              xcopy c:\UBCD4Win\BartPE\* BartPE\ /H /E /Y
                              echo.

                              :_SetupBootFiles
                              echo Setting up Boot Files:

Obviously if you want to use this, you will have to replace the paths to work with your own network shares.

Also, this is my first post (on any forum) so I apologize if I should post this somewhere else or something like that.

Howdy folks. I just got a new 8gb flash drive and I am really excited to try this out. However when I click on the link to download BootMenuFiles.zip it is dead. Could someone please repost the files so that I can work on this project? Thanks in advance.
