Is there a way to make an ATI chipset/sata driver pack ... so that computers with ati drivers will work with bartpe. I am not able to see the hard drive on a ati express 200 mb.

Load this program:

http://www.drowaelder.de/winpe/HWID/hwids.rar

run save_hwids.cmd,(under your real xp) and post the build hwids.txt

This is what it comes up with:

Strange ATI file ahcix86.inf "ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Controller" contains
QUOTE
%NapaDesc%=Napa_Inst,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&SUBSYS_2A4F103C
This indicate a controller at AHCI mode. A AHCI device use Compatible ID PCI\CC_010601.
That's not a Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE device.
I'm confused.

Run 'devcon.exe hwids PCI\CC_01*' and post output.

Strange, ATI use a single HardwareID PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&SUBSYS_2A4F103C for IDE and AHCI mode.
Therefore PNP may load a false driver.

Overwrite defaults, add a plugin file (UBCD4Win)\plugin\Drivers\ATI_IDE.inf
CODE
; PE Builder v3 plug-in INF file

[Version]
Signature= "$Windows NT$"

[PEBuilder]
Name="driver: ATI Express 200 - IDE mode addon"
Enable=1

[DelLine]
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&SUBSYS_2A4F103C"
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_438C&SUBSYS_2A4F103C"

[SetValue]
;Compatible ID: PCI\VEN_1002&CC_0101
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&CC_0101", """pciide"""
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_438C&CC_0101", """pciide"""
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&CC_0101", """pciide"""

This may work at IDE mode, but fail in AHCI mode.

Can you change IDE mode to AHCI mode in BIOS?
Can you provide HardwareID's in AHCI mode?

Changing it to AHCI in bios did allow ubcd4win find the hard drive.

So that is exciting ... all I have to do on that computer is change it to that mode and it will work.

yay. Thank you for your help.

A general working solution would be nice. This has to be tested.

Please add this plugin
CODE
; PE Builder v3 plug-in INF file

[Version]
Signature= "$Windows NT$"

[PEBuilder]
Name="driver: ATI IDE mode addon"
Enable=1

[DelLine]
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&SUBSYS"

[SetValue]
;CC_0106 to ahcix86
"txtsetup.sif","HardwareIdsDatabase","PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&CC_0106", """ahcix86"""

;CC_0101 already default to pciide

Hard disk maybe available at IDE and AHCI mode.
Can you try both IDE and AHCI mode in BIOS?
