Here's what EZPCFix shows me in the Active Setup\Installed Components. I have no idea what I should be removing here, and I don't want to mess anything up!

I was going through the process on that page already which is what led me to that screen. I just don't know what is malicious if anything. I don't want to get rid of some important system file.

ezpcfix is an awesome tool for advanced users.
I replied hoping to confirm you were on the right page---referring to pcusers' docs.

If you don't know what's what, the malware removal forums that use hijackthis may be able to help you more directly, one on one. smile.gif

Thanks for trying to help, but I think I should just leave it alone for now since it's kind of over my head.

I have another question though, as I was continuing through the process.. where it says:

go to "Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions" and delete all of them.
go to "Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar" and delete all of them.
go to "Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks" and delete all of them.

Where in the regedit am I looking to find these?

Ok.. dirkgently42 has already given you good advice.. what you are asking about should only be performed by an advanced user or you could easily cause more trouble than you may already have.

Take his advice, visit one of the forums that utilize HiJackThis to get some help from an expert in its use and strickly follow their instructions.

Now would be a good time to mention how easily you can render your computer non-bootable by editing the wrong registry keys. surrender.gif

This is an advanced process for people who really understand what they are doing, and if you will forgive me, it really sounds like you need to use a program that is more safe for a newer user before you wipe out your operating system. Spybot S&D would be a good choice, along with comodo firewall and a decient anti-virus program which you can get for free.

The hijackthis forum is a good place to get help with speciffic issues, but here again you need to be able to edit the registry without deleting the wrong keys or you will be unhappy with the results.

If you do plan to continue to do this yourself, you should stop right now and create a current backup of at least your registry so that you can recover the old version if you wipe out the one that is being used to load the os. A full raw backup of the drive to save any important data would be a good idea concidering how easily it is to accidently wipe out your data. If this is a "Test Machine" that has no important info on it, then by all means "Experiment Away" and enjoy what you learn in the process, just make sure you know the risks before you "Press the Wrong Button" in any of the programs that are included with UBCD4WIN.

Thanks guys, good advice, I'll step away from this one. I'm not offended, don't worry, I know I'm a registry noob! happy.gif

I'll still to using the more user-friendly programs on the UBCD4Win.
