Hi,

Some time ago and with older version of UCBD4WIN I used it on Vista system. I did something that damaged the boot or MBR or MFT, and luckily I was able to recover, I think with testdisk program as I am not sure now, to restore copy of one of the above objects.
Since then I never tried UBCD4WIN again on Vista. (I know the input to UBCD4WIN is from XP/SP2 CD-ROM)

So, can I safely use it on Vista?
If not, is there another similar project like UBCD4WIN that works with Vista?
I use it mostly to clean systems, so I run AVP and Spybot, and EzPCFix, etc.

Thanks,
J

You should be able to use ubcd4win fine on vista, however you think you modified the mbr???

I've not used Vista so this may have changed but I had read that any sort of tinkering with the installed OS partition results in you having to reinstall, ie resize your installation drive results in a repair install.

resizing vista partitions need repair install

You should be fine using ubcd4win if your using the spyware/av components but doing anything to your partitions may cause a repair install to be needed.

Thanks for the reply.
It has been long ago and I did something on the partition or NTFS, and I assumed back then that Vista is using different drivers for NTFS than in XP, and ubcd4win has drivers that know only XP.

Anyway, it's good to hear I can use it for virus cleaning and regular applications on a Vista OS.
