Full Version: Is there a recommended method for upgrading?

Hi

I have a already used 3.04 and 3.06 versions of UBCD4Win and realised I still have ALL the files for both versions in two separate directories (including the build files, the created ISOs etc etc)!

I am about to upgrade to 3.13 and didn't want to repeat this mistake.

Is there suggested method for upgrading? Should I install over the previous version, but into the same directory? Should I manually delete everything (except my XPSP2CD file) and start again fresh?

Are there any configuration files I can retain, like a preselected list of plug-ins I've chosen?

I looked everywhere in the install instructions pages, the FAQ pages and these forums, and couldn't find any advice on this aspect. (Apologies if it is there and I was looking in the wrong places).

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Install a new version to a new directory.

Delete manually a old directory.

No, there is no configuration file to retain.

As for cutsom addons: use a own plugin subdirectory http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10538

Thanks for the quick reply.

That is pretty much what I did last time, although I didn't delete the old directory. (I was keeping it until I was sure it was all OK, but it seems I never got round to deleting it!)

Maybe it would be worth including a "Updating to latest version" item in the instructions, and the FAQs on the website (just to make this clear). I know I just looked for them now, but also last year when going from 3.04 -3.06, I also spent hours trawling those instructions and these forums looking for an answer. I'm sure I am not alone!

Thanks for a great product... and great support.

Mike

For a starter: make a list of current plugins.

Create a file (UBCD4WinV???)\plugin\plugin-list.cmd
CODE
@echo off
echo Plugin list    %date% %time%> plugins.txt
for /f "tokens=1* delims=:" %%a in ('findstr /S /I "enable=" *.inf') do (
(echo.
findstr /I "enable=" "%%a"
echo File="%%a"
findstr /I "Name=" "%%a" ) >> plugins.txt
)

notepad plugins.txt

Run plugin-list.cmd

enabled plugin: Enable=1
disabled plugin: Enable=0
