Had Grub boot loader installed for dual boot with Linux on separate HD.
After backing up files I tried removing Grub. Resulting in "Error Loading Operating System".
My system is Windows XP Pro Sp2, Dell Dimension 8220. Tried booting Windows Install disk.
CD drive wasn't reading. Tried floppy drive same result. Replaced both floppy drive and CD drive.
Downloaded latest version of Bios from Dell. Upgraded from A4 to A9.
Downloaded Ubcd4Win. Created an iso on a Dell Inspiron 2650. Using the iso, got the following
error message: starting CD.. Error: Cannot load file (code: 015Ah) \bddw\bdcw.bin Press any key to boot from hard disk or ESCape to reboot...
Created a second iso using Roxio rather than Starburn. Tried to boot with that CD. only received the
error: "Error Loading Operating System" without the "Error: Cannot load..."
What options are there? I'm a newb end user really. This is my first big time crash like this.
Thanks.

I discovered that the C: Drive where my Windows XP was installed had its jumpers set to Slave. The D: Drive where my Linux system (corrupted) was installed had its jumpers set to Master. Will see what happens when the jumpers are switched.
At least I'm getting "Non System Error" when booting with a floppy inserted in the A: Drive. I'm sort of flying blind here. Anyone has ideas please jump in?

Double check the CD jumpers and replace the ribbon if you did not already do so.
Set them for master/slave instead of CSEL.
Use IMGBURN to burn the ISO to CD. ( www.imgburn.com )
CD-R is better then CD-RW, try burning at 4x for best results.
Test memory with memtest from the first menu when you boot from the cd.

Thank you for responding. I will follow through with your suggestions.
Some additional information: When I switched the jumpers on the HD's the boot displayed the following:
GNU GRUB Version 0.97(640k lower/260572k upper memory)
ubuntu,kernal 2.6.17-11 - 386 (recovery mode)
ubuntu, kernal 2.6.17-11 - 386
ubuntu, kernal 2.6.17-10 -386 (recovery mode)
ubuntu,kernal 2.6.17 -10 -386
ubuntu, memtest86+
Other operating systems:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
After selecting WindowsXP
(new screen)
Booting 'Microsoft Windows XP Professional'
root (hd1,0)
Filesystem type is ext3fs, partition type0x83
save default
make active
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
chainloader +1
Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.
Press any key to continue...
I'm guessing the problem is the mapping of hd0 and hd1?
Anyway, I'll change the ribbon and jumpers on the CD and use IMGBURN to make a new iso.
Thanks.

Followed your directions step-by-step. Re-downloaded ubcd4win and created iso using imgburn.
Can't believe how excited I was when I saw the Ultimate Boot CD spash screen! Don't exactly know
where I'm going from here but its definitely feels like progress. Memtest OK. Windows XP is installing! Thankyou.

I spoke too soon. After Windows copied files and initialized it restarted. The dreaded GRUB loader popped up. and stopped the install.

Boot the UBCD4WIN
Select "Windows Recovery Console"
From the command line type...
FIXBOOT
FIXMBR
Then exit and reboot.
UBCD4WIN does not have a Windows Instalation included, it's a recovery platform.
Not really sure what you are trying to accomplish.
