Full Version: Some apps run, some don't?

Forgive me if I've missed a sticky somewhere on this. I've had zero problems in the past building and working with BPE. I have no problems building and booting into UBCD. However, some apps simply don't respond in any way, shape or form when run, either from the start button or quick menu.

For example, task mgr will not run. K-Mel will run, but Filezilla won't. All but one of the HD diagnostic apps won't run.

I've verified the presence of the files in the Programs folder. I've looked at the nu2 xml and can see no problems with it. Everything looks alright..... they just don't run. Any thoughts?

And yes, it's an SP2 slipstream. I know... I know... but again, I have zero problems on BPE. I wouldn't think I'd suffer problems running something as low-level as taskmgr under UBCD, sp2 or no sp2.

Thanks in advance.

SP2 shouldn't be a problem, I've been using SP2 in my builds without any problems for several months.

See here as there are some feedback on these issue's here.

Thanks. That sounds like my problem. Kinda strange that it's impacting task manager, compression tools, and a bunch of other 'stock' apps (I'd say close to 50% of the apps don't run).

I'm using 2.31. Perhaps that's somehow causing the problem. I've begun the process of starting with a clean BPE and overlaying portions of UBCDW in a systematic fashion to see when it stops working as expected. I'll post any findings of interest.

Well, I painstakingly went through the process of turning on a subset of plugins, build, test, repeat. When it was all said and done the problem has magically disappeared. I don't know where I screwed up, but somehow I filtered out the problem when I sat down and played find-the-bug. Typical.

The *only* thing I know I changed was turning off Joliet support for the ISO produced by EasyBoot (I'm mingling UBCD4Win with some other boots). Perhaps this was what was gumming things up, but I can't fathom how it would (I'm also pretty sure I was having problems with the ISO from mkisofs). If I'm bored I'll rebuild the EZB iso with joliet and see what happens.

Regardless, problem resolved and I learned a fair amount of the plugin infrastructure in the process. Thanks.

Well that's what I'd expect when trying to track the bug for it to disappear smile.gif

Aha! Your third post gave the answer - I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having problems with EZ Boot... though paraglider swears by it (from 911cd.net forum), I also had about 1/2 my apps stop working - so rather than try to fix things for EZ Boot, I just dumped it and will rely on other methods... I wasn't crazy about that interface anyway - it is not very user friendly. It has potential, but has a long way to go in my book.
