Hi there,
I thought I had slipstreamed SP2 correctly but then upon putting the bootable CD that I had just created via an ISO from AutoStreamer and then checking the newly burnt CD with Autostreamer and specifying it as my own share Autostreamer came back saying it was XP SP1.
Here are the steps I took with Autostreamer to attempt to make my ISO slipstreamed with the SP2 download:
1. specify my own share
2. windows share was my own XP Home CD with SP1
3. service pack was c:\WinSP2\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe
I then clicked Next and it seemed to work as I waited till all three checkmarks showed up in green then I clicked exit (I did not see a finish or close or something to that affect).
I am just wondering if their is a simple way to check if I indeed have slipstreamed SP2 correctly.
I hope this is not too confusing to all of you but if it is I will try to clarify where needed.
RGDS & TIA

Hi CurtisMinBC
Looking at my slipstreamed SP disk I find these files
WIN51IP.SP2
I386/SP2.CAB
I386/SP2.CAT
You should also see that the slipstreamed ISO is considerable larger than the original SP1 cd. SP1 approx 520mb SP2 approx 600mb
If there is a simply way to find out I don't know of any, all I can offer is this advice, hopefully someone will know of a alternative way.
I've just checked mine with auto-streamer V1.3 and that came back as SP2.
You are pointing autostreamer at your correct CD? Not left SP1 cd in.

stidyup,
Well I do not have those files, I even redownloaded SP2 update and reburnt the CD but still it comes up as SP1.
Any suggestions?

I'm sure Littlbuger or Steel will give you some advice on autostreamer, it's something I've only used once or twice and never had any problems with it.
Can you tell me which version of autostreamer you are using?
1.28
1.29
or
1.30
Autostreamer should detect which SP has been installed, if it's saying SP1 and you've gone through the slipstreaming process something has gone wrong.

Just to add my own .02 on the subject. I tried creating a slipstreamed disk using Windows XP SP1 Professional with version 1.30. I was able to point it to the disk and to the location of SP2 and clicked next. Nothing happened, it just hung. I then went and used version 1.29 without any problems.
Since I had previously used 1.29 without any problems, I would certainly keep using 1.29 for a while.

I think it was 1.28 that I used, try a earlier version and see if it alters anything.

Well, for one thing, when you slipstream a XP SP1 CD with SP2, there are a lot of leftover files and whatnot still on the CD from SP1 which might be triggering AutoStreamer (for some strange reason) to still think it's SP2, or something along the way just went wrong. To make sure you get a good clean XP SP2 CD, if you can, get an original XP CD (without any SP) and then slipstream SP2. Otherwise, more details on the version used and extreme detail in steps and messages would help if you can post them please. I've never had this problem either, so I'm not sure yet what's going on.

As for getting a XP CD w/o any SP that is not possible however, I will try an older version and see if that rectifies the problem.

UPDATE: 1.29 did not work either

Well,
1.28 and 1.29 did not work either however I did notice an error box that appeared.
The first picture shows where Autostreamer was when the error occured:

and here is the exact error message:

Try running the SP file all by itself. I think it may be corrupt. It will begin by extracting the files, if it makes it all the way through that extraction process with no errors then it is ok. Just select "cancel" and "yes" after it gets to the new pop up, to cancel the update process.
If you get any errors, then your SP2 download is corrupt. Download it again. Please let me know if your download is ok or not.

I sure hope that I do not come off being silly but is their any chance that this could be due to the fact that I am trying to run AutoStreamer under Win2K even though I have a XP CD?
Reason I ask is I think I remember someone telling me that as long as I have a XP CD I can run it under any OS.

That bit of information would have been helpful. I read a post about this in Neowin and most people said you cannot slipstream an SP in a different version of the OS. So I thought I would test this.
Copied my XP CD to a folder on my 2k system. Ran AS, selecting "local share", and directing it to my folder and SP2 file. Right after the files extracted I too got the same error message. I guess you cannot slipstream an XP CD on a 2k system, since it wouldn't work for me neither. Sorry.

Well,
Unfortunately I guess someone must have misunderstood what the FAQ said (you can take it as if you have a XP CD you can still slipstream via any OS).
Guess I will have to wait till my XP machine is back up and running.
Thanks for all your help anyhow and sorry for any inconvenience.

AutoStreamer is a easy and quick slipstreamer for Windows Operating Systems. All that is needed for AutoStreamer to work is a source (that being an original Windows CD or a local share) and a Service Pack file.
Autopatcher HomepageI don't blame you for being confused. The instructions are a bit misleading when they don't state the CD needs to be created on the same OS.

I had no idea that that was the case either. I'm sorry about all of the confusion and whatnot. Hopefully when I get time, I'll add this little tidbit to our FAQ for future reference. Thanks.

I bet it's failing because the setup will assume it's being installed on the current O/S even though you just want to slipstream.
At least we will all know for next time.

Something that should be clarified for this post and the FAQ.
You can update an XP Pro CD to SP1a, but not SP2 on Windows 2000 (SP4 is the OS version I'm suing). It's just SP2 that causes problems. I've even tried to use the extracted files and run it from there.. It still doesn't work.
So, I guess we're doomed (if you will) to use SP1a for our UBwinCD's. I wonder...lol. Would it work with Windows Server 2003? Has anyone tried this yet?
Patrick.
