Hi all,
I have Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a CD (495 MB). How do I SlipStream this with Windows XP Home Edition.(586 MB) wub.gif

I assume that you have a retail version of Windows XP Home Edition.

1.) Download AutoStreamer

2.) Extract all files and run AutoStreamer.exe

3.) This is where you need to make some selections.
a.) If you have 2 CD-ROM drives place your Windows XP CD in one drive and your SP2 CD in the other and specify accordingly in the AutoStreamer selection windows.

b.) If you only have 1 CD-ROM drive you'll need to copy the contents of one CD onto your hard drive. I would recommend copying the SP2 CD to a folder and then deleting it when you're done. But this is up to you. Either way, specify your selections accordingly in the AutoStreamer selection windows.
4.) An ISO file will be created. You'll need to use a program such as Nero or CD Burner XP to burn the image onto a CD.

I hope this helps.

You should be able to only copy the SP2.exe file from your CD to your hard drive, not the entire CD. Then run AS with your retail XP CD and direct it to that CD drive and the service pack file you copied to your hard drive.

Hi Artic Wolf & Steel Trepid,

Thanks for your responses. I have copied the two CDs into seperate folders on my hard drive, and I will be using Nero 5.5.

Even if I copy the XPSP2.EXE file (272 MB) and Windows XP Home Edition (586 MB) which makes a total of 854.4 MB. That will not fit on my CD-RW disc (700 MB) wub.gif

Ok, the Slipstreaming process will remove duplicate files and update out of date files on your original XP cd. My XP Professional with XP2 installed is only 624MB. It will all fit when done. happy.gif

Right, you do not just put the files together on a CD and you are done. You have to go through the slipstreaming process, that is why we said to direct AS to the CD and that one file. AS then goes through the process of streaming everything together. New files are added, old files no longer needed are deleted, and new versions of files replace the ones on your original CD. AS just reads these files and does the process itself in another folder so it is not modifying your exisiting files....it is doing it's own process. It will then generate an ISO image that you will need to burn to a new CD. Just make sure you select the right option in your burning software, if you simply burn the ISO file TO the CD....that does nothing. You need to find the option in your software that reads something like "burn ISO image to CD", etc. If you have any other questions please post.
