Full Version: Notebooks - WinUBCD unable to run

I've been trying to get a WinUBCD that will run on a notebook. I've tried serveral combinations of UBCD / BartPE / Windows OS source files over the last few months and can't get a WinUBCD that will boot on a notebook / laptop.

The disks will boot ok on normal desktops, so I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with them.

I've tried them on CDR as well as CDRW, as I know some old drives have trouble booting off CDRW.

I've tried a total of four laptops, so I don't think its anything specific to this particular laptop. The models are IBM thinkpad 50e, IBM thinkpad X40, Fujitusu lifebook (don't know the model, but its about 3 years old), IBM thinkpad X20. OK, so that's a bit IBM heavy I know, but that's all I had to test it on.

What happens is the boot process will seem to go OK, until the blue windows desktop is displayed. Then the machine will reboot suddenly, with no warning. This will repeat as many times as you let it.

Anyone else run into this problem? Is it a driver issue? Is there a workaround?

This is a driver issue. I have a P3 desktop that will not boot my project. It has onboard Intel graphics, others have reported this same issue. I've never heard of any problems about laptops though, until now. I'm sorry I cannot offer you a quick fix right now, although I hope to within the next day or two. I have the next 2 days off from work so I will work hard on trying to find a fix for this issue. Maybe someone else will read this post and have a fix before I find one, hopefully. smile.gif

I have an IBM Thinkpad T40. To boot the UBCD4Win CD I have to press the blue "Access IBM" button above the F2-F3 keys. Then, select STARTUP, and tell it to boot from the CD.

I also have a DELL Latitude Laptop. On that one, I had to go into the BIOS and change the boot order, to put the CD before the HD.

Other laptops would probably be similar to one of the two above. Hope that helps.

Forgot to mention: On the IBM Thinkpad, it comes up with the numeric keypad 'enabled'. Don't forget to take it out of numeric mode (<SHIFT>-Numlk). Otherwise, your qwerty-keyboard won't qwerty right (on the right-side of the keyboard) because it is in numeric mode tongue.gif

The DELL Latitude does just fine.
