I am new to using UBCD4Win and I love it. Very nicely done. Anyway, after creating a few of these cd's and using them for awhile I thought how nice it would be to have on my 512 usb. Before trying on my own I thought I would check with the experts to see if this has been tried and how. And I side thought. I am a big supporter of NOD32 the best Anti virus software I have ever used. Accurate and low overhead. It would be nice if we could integrate the 30 day trial into the cd. Here is a link to more info on NOD32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
And here is a link to the free trial : http://www.nod32.com/download/trial.htm

As for the USB booting, I'm pretty sure it can be done, though I can't remember the exact steps other than making sure you change your BIOS settings to be able to boot from USB.

As for NOD32, it is a great A/V program, but we only put freeware on the CD, not any trial/shareware. I'm sorry about that, but that was the intention of the CD, to keep the whole thing free forever, and not just have trials all over the place. Thanks for the suggestion though. smile.gif

1. I have tried to make my thumbdrive bootable on several occasions, only to fail. I have followed several "guides" online but none of them have worked. As soon as we can figure this out we will of course add a sticky here in the forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2. Thanks for the suggestion, but I have been trying to keep this project all freeware. It just saves on the headaches that 30 day trials can impose. Some software starts the trial timer right when it is extracted or downloaded. So if I add shareware to a release...28 days later a user downloads my project, and will only have 2 days to try the software. This is just an example.

I'm sure NOD32 is great software, but due to my policy on this and my "hard headedness" I cannot add it to the project.

3. I suggest you check out the 911CD forum for a plugin for that software. You should be able to find a plugin that will allow you to add your license or registration #. You can then just add it to your build. This forum and resources are directed more towards our project, we try to help as much as possible with other plugins but our energies are directed more towards this project. Usually suggesting 911 forum, providing a link for one we already know about, or giving other advice.

I'm glad you enjoy our project and I look forward to future posts from you mg1. smile.gif

Thanks, I just found the 911cd posts.....I guess I will join the rest and just try my hand at it. Thanks for the quick replies. And your reasoning for not adding NOD32 makes sense. Again, really like the project, I have a pretty large utility aresenol, but I think this will probally get the most use. I will check through my tools and see what is really free, and let you know ( The more the better ).

Yup, if you find some "freeware" suggestions please post them. As you said the more stuff we can get on this project the better. biggrin.gif

Hi this is my first post and I just wanted to say UBCD4Win is great. I've only been into this whole bartpe thing for about 5 or 6 days now. I found your link first and tried it out and it's great. I haven't gotten into customizing it for myself yet though.

Now on to the topic... My computer can't boot from usb flash drive, so i'm not even worried about that. However, once i boot my usb drivers from a cd/floppy, what do i type to start the boot process?

Thanks,

On the USB side of things, apparently this project Inside Security is going to put this rescue tool on a usb stick???

TODO - planned and most wanted features and additions
Provide a tool to install INSERT on a USB memory stick.
Upgrade to Linux kernel 2.6.x.
Replace the accelerated X-servers with the KDrive servers (-12MB uncompressed).
Still more Documentation has to be added.
Add ethereal or ntop.
Integrate a tool for reading PDFs (xpdf), so that people can access our information material on the CD :-)
Add more tools for disaster recovery and network analysis.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, so pls forgive me if there is an answer to my question which I haven't found despite a long search. In such case pls guide me to it, thx.

Just wondering if there is any progress on the plan / the idea to have all this installed on a USB stick or other USB device. Sound like a great idea to me, and it could also solve problems like antivirus-updates without having to write a new CD every time ...

Keep up the excellent work!

HERE'S a link explaining how to boot from usb. The only problem is that you have to download sp1 for win2003 which is almost 350mb. The link that Bart posted for sp1 doesn't exist anymore but HERE'S a current link.

Tom,

thx a lot for these links! There's a lot to read there and, at first glance, it doesn't sound really like a piece of cake ... but I'll give it a try occasionally.
