Full Version: Is it possible to add drivers to a SlipStreamed CD

Hi all,

My computer came with a a Recovery CD that has Windows ME,
I upgraded to Windows XP and SP2 and created the Slip Streamed SP2 CD.
My concern is that if for any reason I have to format and reinstall Windows,
I don't want to go through the process of Installing Windows ME and then the Slip Streamed Windows XP.
I noticed that I had about 70 odd MB of space left on the Slip Streamed CD, could this space be used for drivers and other software etc. ? wacko.gif
If so, what drivers should I copy and how do I do it. The Recovery CD is all coded. unsure.gif

Ok, you never have to worry about install ME again. You could almost throw that garbage CD out!!! No don't do that. Anyways, you upgraded to XP and created a slipstreamed SP2 CD. The next time you need to do a "clean" install, all you need to do is run the XP CD. During the installation it will ask for your previous version CD to verify you have an older version of Windows and are allowed to use an upgrade XP CD. One side note also is to make sure you used that upgrade CD to create your slipstreamed CD. I own an "upgrade" XP CD (my computer) and a full version CD(my wife's computer.) The upgrade CD and full CD accept different types of license keys. If I install XP with the full version CD it will only accept certain keys, vice versa. I accidentally did this a long time ago and ended up reinstalling again just to be completely legit.
I hope this information helps you out and saves you some time.

Now for adding drivers, I have honestly never done this before. I know it is possible but somewhat complicated. I'm sure some of the other members of this forum can help guide you in the right direction.

**Special Note, there is a program that starts with a "N" that can do this, from MSFN. I have mentioned many times not to mention that software in this forum. So I am just warning everyone. Please post as much info. as possible here in the forum. If you want to recommend that software, please PM this individual. I would really like some other title mentioned if anyone knows one.

I'll send you the link explaining how to do it manually, however due to this guy being a ass I can't post the link direct.

I think (haven't done this in a long time...) that you can just create a folder called on your disc called Win98 and put the WinME file called precopy1.cab there. It will still ask you to insert a previous OS disc when you do a clean install using the upgrade disc, but you should just be able to press enter and have it carry on installing. This is of course assuming your WinME OEM disc actually has the original setup files. smile.gif
