I have a strange problem trying to boot to the created V2.4 CDRW. With V2.4 plus the drivers file, the PC tries to boot to the CDRW, gives no errors and boots to the HD. The same CDRW had V2.4 on it before the drivers file was published and that worked OK. I have another CDRW with V2.3 on it and that boots fine.
The really strange thing is that if I put the said CD plus drivers in a Tosh laptop it boots fine.
The method I used I think matches the instructions on the website:-
Bart PE 3.13 extracted to C:\pebuilder313
Plug in folder deleted
UBCD4Win 2.4 extracted to C:\pebuilder313
Drivers file extracted to C:\pebuilder313\drivers
PEBuilder with recommended options set to burn an ISO, which is then burn with Nero.
One thought I use WinXP to erase the CDRW, which takes no where near as long as Nero, so is Nero doing a more thorough job (just a thought as yet untried)?
Any ideas?

Nope, I think the issue lies in the drivers. A few others have reported this to me via email today also. So I'm thinking one or more of the drivers may be messed up. Does the system that will not boot need any of the drivers?? I'm kinda hoping it does, because then we could find out what driver is the problem. If you do not need any of the drivers, then it will take longer to figure out which driver it is.
This is the reason why I wanted all the drivers "verified" before adding them. I was afraid issues like this could occur.

Yes it does need the drivers file. I have an ASUS A7N8X motherboard with the NForce MCP network card running the latest BIOS update currently available (1007) for my revision of board.
The Tosh didn't need the drivers as its in built NIC worked fine without it. I did offer to try the driver for this NIC card, so the fact that I am having problems is not a major problem - just very curious!

Well, I would suggest not burning with PEbuilder, but just creating the ISO through it. Then go and burn the ISO with Nero and use Nero to do a quick erase of the CD-RW (I do it all of the time---once I try to burn the ISO to the full CD-RW, it says it's full and asks if it can quick erase, I choose yes, take about 30 secs, and then it begins burning). Otherwise, we'll hopefully release a new drivers download this week with A LOT more drivers, but from what you said, those drivers should already be in there. I still don't know why it's not just booting from the CD though. Have you tried a CD-R? :-)

I do use PEBuilder to create the ISO and then Nero to burn it. I'll wait to see what SteelTrepid comes up with as he thinks it is down to the drivers. I feel this makes sense as 2.4 without the drivers boots OK in this PC.
Have you ever had a CD that just refuses to boot and it is down to that individual disk rather than the boot sector, or however a CD boots?

Sorry, but I need to know what hardware isn't working in order to help you. I thought I asked but I think I didn't. If it's onboard hardware please be specific with the model number. I just need manufacturer and model numbers. I'll check into it after you respond and I get back from the store.

Oh crap! Missed a post, ok so it's for the onboard NIC for that ASUS mobo. Gotcha. I'll check into it.

The newest official nVidia drivers should be included along with any storage drivers as well. Have you tried the latest release of the drivers, V 0.2 yet? May help, may not. Any more details though and we will help further. Thanks.

If it is of any more help it is the ASUS A7N8X which is board revision 1.04 and Bios 1007. If you need any other info please let me know.

hmm, I'm having the same problem but don't have it narrowed down yet. When I bought my xp pro cd, it came with sp1a and I haven't slipstreamed it yet. Today when I decided to try out the new driver file, I also decided to slipstream sp2 into the cd.
It didn't boot so I tried it on another pc... didn't boot either so I set the bios to only boot from cd. Still no go.
Then I thought ok, I'll just use my original xp pro spa1 cd... Still no booting
I've now used several different cd's just to make sure.
I'm pretty sure now that it's a driver causing the problem and I'm guessing that it's a scsi driver. I just realized that the only drives that I've tried to boot this cd in are cdrw drives so after I'm finished with this post, I'm going to reboot and try it in the dvd drive.
I'll post back with the results...

It didn't boot from the dvd drive either so it's just a matter of finding the culprit.
I just removed all of the scsi drivers and tried it again. No boot.
I'm going to move the network drivers to another folder (just for a sanity check) and try it again.

Yes, the drivers are of course still in beta so we are trying to figure out all of the problems. I don't know why these are all happening, but there's got to be a reason and solution somewhere. Thanks for the info.

Just a thought...the drivers used in 2.3 worked OK for my onboard nForce MCP NIC, and it booted fine as have all versions from about 2.0.
I know you have changed the folder that the drivers are located in, but are these essentially the same drivers, but in a different location? If not and you want to email me the old drivers I'll try them in whatever folder you want.

It's not as simple as changing folders for the location. BartPE changed greatly from version 3.0.32 to the version it is now. It now handles NIC and storage drivers MUCH differently. That's where the drivers folder comes in now. Instead of having to create plugins for each driver (which is a pain), you can just extract the correct drivers to the proper folder and pebuilder will incorporate those into the CD build. It's supposed to work just fine, but I'm thinking there may be problems somewhere, I'm not sure. When you burned the ISO created, did you enable options such as Finalize CD and Disc-At-Once? We may have to go back to the old way of including drivers (through plugins) though we really just want to stick to the new process as that's how the new BartPE works. Thanks.

No those are not options I get in Nero Express V5.5 when burning the ISO to CDRW. I would not expect to get the "Finalise" option on CDRWs. Is there anthing channged in your 0.2 driver download as far as my NIC is concerned?

Nothing has changed for the nForce NIC, no. As for the Finalize CD and whatnot, it's always good to do that option for CD-RWs as it then makes the computer think (usually) that it's a regular CD-R and not a rewrittable one. You can still write over it (even though you just said Finalize). I've done it many many times. As for that option, it's only in Nero Burning ROM (the full featured version), not Nero Express. I think Nero Express does an OK job though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

OK I'll wait and see what 0.3 brings.
