Hi there!
This is the first time I tried this ubcd following the instructions to build the CD using winxp SP2 and the first test run showed rather abnormal and many programs cannot run and showed nothing when clicked.
It was tested one major abnormality is only one program can run at one time say when explorer is opened, nothing can run or when any other program is opened no other can run. Taking the K-melon browser as an example, when clicked, the DOS screen showed file copied to the temp drive and then nothing happens, when other progrm is clicked the whole thing hanged and needed a reboot, it is seen that the K-melon files are extracted in the temp drive but nothing happens, there are a number of programs behaving like that.
I appreciate if anybody can have the idea why only one program can run at one time since this is rather abnormal and that might be the reason why many programs cannot run.
thanks !

Seems like you may have a bad build, I've just ran 2.4 and K-melon extracted fine.
Have you tried rebuilding the CD?

Hi There!
Actually I have been building the Bart CD and is running normally and according to the log file building this ubcd it seems there isn't a problem, I will try to build it again and see what happens.
Thanks.

It may have either been a bad build or a bad download. Try re-downloading the project with a download manager (such as Getright) and then rebuild the ISO. If there aren't any problems, see if you can open the ISO with a program like WinRAR or UltraISO. Also trying testing the ISO in a program such as QEMU. Post back here if all fails and also give some more information on your system specs. Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you guys and actually I don't see a bad download or a bad build, anyway I downloaded version 2.4 again from another mirror site and rebuild the whole thing using Bart 313 and the result is just the same. The winxp SP2 is also used for building the Bart PE and it is running normally.
When the ubcd booted up, the ramdisk was resized to 141 Mb, then network support enabled and ipconfig showed normal, the first thing I tried is to open K-melon, it showed from the DOS window files are copied to RAM disk and extracted there but nothing happened and when other program was clicked the whole thing hanged, even task manager cannot run. Then the second time reboot, I tried to run explorer and open other programs and also found no program can run anymore with one program already opened and is very abnormal. Then for the third time boot, I brought out the task manager and shut down the GEObar and tried the K-melon again, this time it runs normally and this showed because the GEO bar already running, and no second program can run such that the problem lies there.
I really cannot figure out why only one program can run at one time, anybody got something ? Ah yes, the ISO file can be opened normally using magic ISO, the PE builder log file also showed successfully done. The ISO file is 337058KB
My system is P3 800Mhz, 512M RAM, 80G HDD, melco network card
Thank you very much !!

I can't understand why it's doing that. I've run 6 programs at once several times with no problems. Have you tried going to the menu and click on Clear RAM drive before (and after) you do anything? It may help, but you shouldn't have to do it right away. Hmmm.... I'll have to think harder about this one...

Actually I have done every way to find out the problem and of course clearing RAM is something which I did on the very first. I used the same Bart313 and the same winxp sp2 to build the BART PE and the disk is running perfectly normal. I have been rebuilding the ubcd for a serveral times and it won't change anything, actually what is the major difference between the ubcd and the bart pe when booted up ? and ............. no idea !

UBCD4Win basically adds a lot of programs and utilities to Bart's PE. Bart's PE comes with a few plugins, but you have to manually build most of them. Sure there are nice instructions on adding the files, etc. but this project has taken all that work out. It would take a person a very long time to find all the tools that are included in this project, then even more time to build working plugins for each tool. So in all honestly, this project should save the average user about a week's worth of work....if you worked on it daily for 2-3 hours. That would be a fun contest to run!!

perfectly right for you steeltrepid and of course it took a lot of time to build the project so as when I was building the bartpe. For this ubcd, actually it is interesting to find out what caused the problem but it may require lots of time and rebuilding and burning and testing, it takes time also to analyse the pebuilder.inf file and other inf files and dig out the problem, up to now there is no solution for the problem.
Actually did anyone of you ever tried to download the bart313 and the ubcd2.4 and just replace the plugin folder and the pebuilder.inf file and perhaps the bmp file also and really build again using winxp sp2 and confirm the CD can run normally ?

I haven't had the chance to do that with the drivers add-on packages yet. But before I release a new version I test it on several of my PC's at home. I build several copies throughout the new version process on my computer, and test it on the others. Then one of the final steps is to build it on my wife's PC to make sure. I put on a new copy of BPE and copy the "prerelease" download over the network over to her computer and extract it like a user would. So there are many steps and processes I follow to ensure when I finally release a new version, it should work for everyone. I also mentioned it in another post, that I've been using SP2 for all testing at home since August. All XP systems here have SP2 and I always use a slipstreamed (with AutoStreamer) SP2 XP CD.
There have been several reports this week of strange behavior. I talked to someone earlier today that build the project but none of the menu's worked and GeoShell didn't load. My email has been down for most of the night so I haven't received his log file yet so I don't know what the problem with his build it yet.

Ummm, that's what you're supposed to do in the first place. Either delete or rename the original BartPE plugin folder and overwrite anything else it asks to overwrite when you extract the UBCD4Win exe file...

OK This may sound bizzar but I created a Bart CD with the new version and we are running 4 system through a BlackBox server KVM and if the capslocks are on when Bart boots everything hangs. Don't know if this is because of the BlackBox KVM or a bug in Bart. Just thought I would pass it along.

I think it's the KVM, as here at work, we have some similar issues, though not quite that strange...

Just thought I would add a follow up. I am at work today so I decided to not use the KVM, This time I have the UBCD all loaded not just Bart and with the Caps locks on when the Network Configutor start to run it locks. If i turn off the Caps locks prior to it running I am fine. Is there a way to deault them off on boot of UBCD?
Thanks in advance

There may be an answer to this but it will require a bit of digging. I do not understand why the "caps lock" is coming on when you boot the CD. The only one that I know of and have seen an option for is the "num lock", that is set to be "on" at boot. I just don't get this "caps lock" thing?

Sorry Steel, been a long week thats what I meant num locks...
