Full Version: I'm confused by the UBCD folder structure

I have sucessfully built, burned and used UBCDwin disks. My question has to do with the folder structure in my PEbuilder313 folder. There is a Programs folder and a plugin folder that contain almost identical folders and files with some exceptions.

Do I need both of these folders to successfully create a UBCDwin disk? If I do need both folders, when updating a program like Stinger or AVpersonal, do I need to extract the program files to the appropriate folders in both the Programs and plugin folders?

to answer quickly if you used the default ubcd4win then yes all the folders are needed. One is the set of folders that the builder uses to create the final product. The other set of folders is the actual built product and those are the ones that the cd is built from.

I'm a little confused, are you saying you are putting your BartPE output directly into the same folder as BartPE instead of a subfolder or something? If that's the case, I wouldn't recommend doing that and actually have the output created in a different folder so you do not get confused (like you just did). smile.gif

LittlBUGer,

I assume that your post was directed at me.

Please see the image link below.
Folder Structure

What I am saying is that based on my structure pictured above, my output folder seems to be C:\PEbuilder313\BartPE. What I am confused about is that the C:\PEbuilder313\BartPE\Programs folder has almost the same folders and files as the C:\PEbuilder313\plugin folder.

According to webmedic's post, it appears that the BartPE\Programs folder is the output folder set that is used to create the .iso file. Therefore, PEbuilder313\plugin appears to be the source folders that the output folders are created from.

If that is the case, it would seem that any program updates such as AVpersonal or Stinger only need to be extracted to the appropriate PEbuilder313\plugin folder for the .iso file to reflect the program updates and not extracted additionally to the appropriate BartPE\Programs folder before the new .iso is created.

If that's the case, then can the contents of the BartPE folder be deleted after the .iso creation since it appears that it will be recreated each time a .iso is made?

Yes you can delete the folder. If you leave it that's no big deal either, as PE Builder will just overwrite and erase (I think) what was in there when you build again.

It is possible to update the files in the "BartPE" folder then use mkisofs to create a new ISO image, but I haven't tried that. Since I always have to make sure everything goes ok with the build process, I've never tried doing it. It's honestly easier just to go through the build process again after updating a plugin. So again, yes delete the folder as it just wastes space.
