This may have already been answered, I tried finding it in the forums using the search engine, but came up blank. Can this be done with the DVD medium instead of CD. As DVD drives, both readers and burners are so commonplace, it would be awfully convenient as it would allow a lot more tools/utilities/drivers.

Thanks,

Yes, it should be possible. After pebuilder has created the ISO which is ready to burn, just use your favorite burning software (such as Nero) and burn the ISO to a DVD instead of a CD. smile.gif

I can say I have used it on DVD. I should mention that the boot time when booting off of a DVD is horrible!

Wow, you plan on including a LOT of extra stuff if 700MB isn't enough. laugh.gif

I agree, the boot times ARE horrible for DVD media. The only reason I use them is the mini 1.4 GB for the physical size.

I don't understand why boot times would be worse with DVDs than CDs? DVD drives can read DVDs faster than CDs, or does it depend on the drive? I guess I'm basing my results on 16x (about 22,000 KB/s) DVD reading compared to 48x (about 7,200 KB/s) CD reading.... smile.gif

ubcd4win combined with ghost makes a perfect restoration cd biggrin.gif

After installing XP, office, anti-virus, etc... The ghost image and ubcd4win just doesn't fit on a 700mb cd.

The only thing I can tell you about the boot time is that it seems to read the ENTIRE disk before it will boot. So this certainly increases the boot time.

Oh, I see, you're adding an image on the DVD as well. That makes sense. Though that would never work for my home machine (40GB+ images), and at work, we just do it over the network. smile.gif

I use the UBCD modded for the DVD format to include either our desktop or laptop images. WinUBCD is great for network based imaging or just diags like what I use it for.

Well the load times I spoke of are on slower DVD drives. It's about the same between a regular CD and a regular DVD when using it in a 16X capable DVD drive. This is for a ubcd4win only/BartPE disc.
