If I test nu2menu while im in windows, the exit button works just fine. However when I boot from the CD, the exit option is grayed out, so I cant reboot the system until I press the reset/power button. This is only a recent development as when I used UBCD4Win 2.1 all worked well. Any ideas?

As far as I know, there's not an "Exit" item in the menu, but a "Reboot" item which has always worked fine for me. But maybe you are talking about something else?

This may clarifiy things, or not.
The menu has an "exit" option in both menus; on boot and when launched from the desktop. "Exit" is grayed out when the CD is booted as claimed, but "Restart" and " Shutdown" are alternative and sensible options given the context. "Exit" is the only option when started from the desktop. This is a demonstration of the menu possessing context sensitivity by design. This is not a flaw, this is how it works. It's not necessary to provide shutdown and restart from the menu as launched from the desktop as your normal (resident) operating system startmenu is available. The "Exit" option on the desktop launched UBCD4Win is how one normally ends the program.
From the desktop it operates with the same properties as any other application launched from windows. When booted from the CD, however, the computer is completely under the control of the operating system (XP) installed on the disc. Thus, we must have a way to "shutdown" or "restart" instead of just "exiting" the program. If "exit" were available, the program would shutdown and seem to hang with no way to "shutdown" or "restart" without resorting to pressing the power button. There is a method to the madness.

Thats what im saying, in previous versions Exit would restart the sytem when launched from the CD. Now it is grayed out, and there doesnt appear to be any option to reboot, unless im blind and missing it somehow.

Actually, in the new version Exit has been removed. The only 2 options will now be restart or shutdown.

What do you see in the menu Annex? I'm curious as if you don't have what should be there, you might have a corrupted CD or something strange. Can you either describe it or post a screenshot? Thanks.

Clear RAM Drive

Exit
Which is basically how its always been, and Exit used to be enabled when id boot from the CD and would function as a reboot option. Now its grayed out.

The new version of Bart's PE changed a lot of things. I'm pretty sure this issue started when we switched to the new version of Bart's PE. A lot of new good things came from the new version, but a few headaches have also occured.
Sorry, I've already stated the option is disappearing in the next release of the project.

What version of Bart PE are you using? It's just strange as that's NOT how it is on mine or any others I've made and seen...

pebuilder313.zip
UBCD4WinV241Full.exe
Open up the nu2menu.xml file UBCD4Win241 and its the same as the above list I wrote.
reboot.cmd says "@nu2menumsg.exe @Exit()" which is fine except, as the original problem stated, Exit is grayed out now for some reason.

Can you post a screenshot, because I think there's definitely something wrong with your build. Yes, that option may be in the file itself but it's probably completely disabled as I have yet to see such an option in any of my builds. Did you remember to enable the peloader 0.4 plugin by default (along with all others)?

Mine looks EXACTLY like yours. See how your Exit is grayed out?

If it's exactly like that, then why don't you hit the Shutdown and Reboot option while booted from the CD? If that's not what you're asking, I'm really confused now... :-\

Eh sorry, confused myself there for a sec. Mine looks exactly like yours except it doesnt have the Shutdown and Reboot option. I just decompressed UBCD4Win and ran the nu2menu.exe file and that menu doesnt have the shutdown or reboot option either.
Its not there in either the windows environment or when booting from CD.

What plugins do you have disabled when you build? I have a hunch here.

Duplicate this "problem" on your own PC.
This may be a matter of perception and not the disc at all.
- Boot with UBCD4Win , skip network setup
- select restart to boot, skip network setup
- ok, now eject the cd from the tray
- select restart to boot
- try shutdown from the menu
- now what? nothing happens? ; I guess I'll just have to hit the power button
Having installed/reinstalled a few computers using any given system boot disk download from bootdisk.com, I am aware of the importance of clearing (or leaving in) your cd or floppy drive before selecting an option to "restart" or "shutdown."
I'm wondering how many others have removed the UBCDWin before selecting "restart" or "shutdown" as I have a few times out of habit with apparently no response. It seems to have mysteriously locked up with no remedy other than to hit the power button. The best choice at this point is to reinsert the CD, instead of powering down. Wait for the CD to spin back up and then select restart.
Select anything from the menu with the CD ejected and there is no response.
Most any command issued from the start menu requires a direct read of the CD. Observe the CD's LED anytime you select a menu item. So just leave it in. When you are done and want to boot to windows, eject the CD only after selecting restart.
It wouldn't hurt to have some sort of friendly prompt saying "Please reinsert the boot disc in the CD tray." It might not be a bad idea to have the restart or shutdown commands resident in memory. This shouldn't take up too much ram.
