Suggestions to struggling builders:

How much emphasis do you place on research? Can you perform relatively involved and complex tasks without reading the instructions?
Have you successfully slipstreamed your XP CD with SP1 or greater?
Did you build a stable BartPE and comprehend the process before attempting to build UBCD4Win ?
Did you build a vanilla UBCD4Win and test it before attempting to add your own plugins?
Have you tested the CD on more than one system to make sure it performs as expected?
Did you build the CD with a certified uninfected PC?
Did you perform a simple search of the forum(s) and consult the wealth of information available before posting a new topic? Do you trust google to pull an answer out of thin air? "I feel lucky."..... (I found this site using google.)
Are you using the most current downloads required to build the CD?

I can't seem to start a new topic here so I just posted this as a reply. I was able to burn the cd but when I tried to use it I get this message : " THE FILE AEC6280.SYS CAN NOT BE FOUND. PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE." When I press any key I get another message : "SETUP FAILED. PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. What gives? I was excited since I was able to produce the iso file needed but got disappointed when I tried to use the cd. Thank you very much.

First of all this CD is awesome, good job to the creators.

Now that thats out of the way I really get to sound like a tard. I just got the CD made and it works and I know this is probably gonna sound stupid, but I am trying to add Norton Ghost 2001 from a floppy in this mix and I have read the tutorials on add plugins and such to the point where my head feels like jello so can someone lend a hand on this one

Thanx

So you have a DOS-based Norton Ghost? If so, and it only takes one floppy, you may want to check out the original UBCD and add it to that and then possibly looking at our guide here to combine the UBCD and UBCD4Win into one complete DOS and Windows based PC troubleshooting CD. smile.gif

Wow! It's amazing how many views an apparently helpful post can generate. I really do hope this has been helpful to new builders! smile.gif

I would also encourage new builders to consult the following FAQ's before building:

Hi,
I am a newbie to UBCD. I successfully created a standard UBCD and I really like it. That was easy. Now I would like to build the same CD including Norton Antivirus and Norton Ghost. My Norton Ghost is part of Norton Systemworks 2003. My Norton AV is a standalone NAV2004. I have visited BartPE and 911CD websites in search of Info besides this site to no avail. The suggested files by BartPE (Ghost 8) for the Ghost plugin, my version of Ghost does not have. BartPE did not have anything on NAV. The suggested files by 911CD for NAV are for the same version (NAV2004) but it does not work. Could you help out by suggesting which files I must add to plugin and whether I need to change some other files (i.e. bat, inf etc...). For NAV when using BartPE, I clicked on PUGIN then ADD but it told me that I needed a .CAB file which NAV CD does not have. For Ghost it asked for the .CAB file which was present but then it said the pugin does not contain any *.inf file.
Please help. Thanks.

The initial post in this topic is analagous, in function, to a Wal-Mart greeter. This is not a topic where new users should post an initial request for help. I'm hoping that new builders/users have found this information useful and keeps them from wasting time and getting frustrated as they become familiar with the project. A lot of frustration can be avoided by following the "How to Build" intructions very carefully, referring to FAQ's, pinned topics and searching the forum.

If you are still having problems building manually, please try to understand the process to the best of your ability. Give it your best effort, and then give the config tool a try. It should help to eliminate most build errors, but I encourage everyone to at least have a basic understanding of the manual "How to Build" instructions.

Try to post your question in the most appropriate forum and provide as much detail as you can. Provide relevant system specs, details of build procedures, and any errors that you may have experienced. Specify wether you have built manually, or have used the config tool. Post any relevant logs: i.e pebuilder.log or ubcd4win.log so that we can help diagnose your particular problem.

It doesn't hurt to add a followup post stating what worked and even, what didn't... a brief summary would suffice. At the very least, a simple "thank you", would be very much appreciated. Most people provide a decent final reply with a "thank you".... just a friendly reminder to some people who tend to leave us hanging.

Understand that everyone involved in this project provides their experience, expertise, knowledge, suggestions and help for free and are happy to do it. But, please be considerate of other people's time. Spend some time trying to figure out your specific problem on your own. If you have discovered a fix, please post your solution for the benefit of others. If an existing post has helped you, then refer to it in your reply.

Don't hesitate to post a question if you need help, but please do a little research before asking for help with an issue that may have already been addressed. Google any error codes as part of your research. I'm almost positive something will come up.

note: The additional posts in this "thread" should have been submitted in other, more relavant forums. As such, this topic should be closed. Any further additions or modifications should be the domain of moderators.

I hope this "thread"  has been helpful. smile.gif

If you are referring to my post I don't know how more specific I can be. I have read the "How to build" instructions and as stated in my post been to BartPE's webpage and read the instructions there too. I also said that I built a standard UBCD without a hitch. I just had some problems building a custom one. In regards to where to post since I obviously according to you I should post elsewhere why don't you suggest where. And as far as saying "thank you" at the end of the post I said "Thanks" even before I got any help. Maybe you should read my post. I am a newbie to not only UBCD but to a forum too. Disregard this post if the comments where not directed at me.

Hi Newbie2UBCD and welcome to the forum.

A good section for requesting information on how to incorporate your software into UBCD4WIN would be Plugin Repository and Commercial Software Support

Many more people with knowledge on this subject will see it there.
