Hey!
I have added the FastTrak 376/378 Driver drivers to the disk and when UBCD loads i do not see my drive.. I hit F6 and loaded the drivers from a floppy and I still can not see the drive... If I use Seatools i can access the drive and run tests...
The system is an Alienware area-51m 7700.. I am having hard drive failure and cannot get into windows... I was hoping to be able to recover some of my file with UBCD
Any ideas??
Thanks!

Ok, how exactly did you add the drivers? Did you use the "drivers" download or did you add them yourself? The "drivers" download does include driver files for your device.
More detailed specs on the machine may help also, but please answer these questions first.

First I used the drivers download and my windows xp sp2 disc to creat the first iso.. Then I added the drivers i have on floppy to the Drivers/SCSIadapter/promise folder and rebuilt the image..... then i loaded the drivers by pressing f6 on startup of UBCD... all 3 ways did not load my c drive...
My system:
XP pro sp2
P4 3.6JGHZ 1MB 800FSB LGA775
Intel 915P Chipset
NVIDIA GeForce 6800FXGo 256MB
2 gig ram
2 hitachi 60gb drives 7200 RAID0
Thanks for the help...

Are you sure it's the FastTrak drivers that you need? I've seen Intel boards with the 915 chipset that required Intel's chipset drivers for the RAID and SATA to work properly. Maybe I'm wrong though. What was the brand of your motherboard again? Thanks.

The alienware invoice only says "Intel 915P Chipset Supporting PCI-Express" so i am not 100% sure..
I thought it might be a problem with the chipset drivers....but i am not sure how to add them to the CD... the drivers that i have here have a EXE file to install them... how do i add these to the disk?? There is a "win2000" and "xp" folder with .cat files.. but there is no "txtsetup.oem" or .INF file
Thanks again!

Email all of the files you feel are necessary for your hardware to me. Please watch the attachment size and mail me multiple times if necessary, 10Meg limit. Send them to my Gmail account-->
[email protected]
I'll look them over and see what I can come up with.

I'm sure Steel will forward that email to me as well so I can take a look once I have time. Hopefully something will give us a clue about it.
I'm curious, are you authorized to open your case and look at your motherboard to find the brand and model number? Or will that void your warranty? If it voids your warranty, don't do it, but otherwise, if you want to, please try that as it may save some time. Thanks.

I'm also having problems opening the data?.cab files. I think we're going to have to use a different method to figure out what files are needed and used for this device.
I've also visited the alienware site and can't find a 7700 model. The highest Area-51 PC on their site is the 5500?? There is an Aurora 7500 though.

I talked to alienware and the MB is a proprietary board that uses the intel 915p chipset..
hope this helps some

That response from Alienware doesn't make any sense, but I'll download the drivers that Steel posted and see what I can do.
@Steel
The link for the Area-51m (m meaning mobile) is right on the front page under What's New...
@ConcussionGFX
Man, you really went all out on your new laptop didn't you?
UPDATE: Those drivers are the standard Windows Intel chipset drivers but are not made for use when booting, only for installation in Windows. Thus, I really don't know what to do, as XP SP2 should support it (it does on a test system I have at work). I'll try to look into it more though.

He said that it is not an "intel" or "asus" or "insert name here." it is a "Alienware proprietary" board....
I dont know if this helps but if I use the recovery console with the promise drivers (Pressing f6 and loading them from floppy) i get access to the drive, but the same procedure does not work with UBCD..

Can you post a link to those Promise drivers? Maybe they are different than the ones included in the drivers download. I'll try to compare and see if I can fix some things. Thanks.

Well, I don't know what to do now, as those drivers are completely identical to the ones already included in the drivers add-on. Very strange though that they work fine for your normal XP CD but not the UBCD4Win... When you press F6 for the UBCD4Win, are the drivers add-on included in the build as well? If so, try it without the drivers add-on.

I will give that a try.
On a seperate note. I am able to get into my Failed C: drive through the recovery console... I found that if i use the win 2000 console, I can get to my files (windows xp recovery security does not allow this.) do you know of a way to copy folders within the console?? "copy" only allows 1 file at a time and xcopy is not supported...

As far as I know, you can't use 'copy' to copy entire folders, only xcopy can do that. But, you could use a command like:
CODE
copy C:\sourcefolder\*.* X:\destfolder\
or something like that.

ConcussionGFX
Apr 21 2005, 04:11 PM
the problem is that in the recovery console these copy features are not supported..
"COPY does not support wildcards or directory copies."

Then that means there's a conflict of interest with some of our drivers on the drivers add-on. I'm wondering if you would possibly have any time to test something for me? Possibly, removing the other Fasttrak 37x folder that comes with the drivers but keep one, if that doesn't work, then vice versa. If that doesn't work, remove both Fasttrak 37x folders, and if that doesn't work, then there's some other drivers with problems. If you have time, could you please do this? It would really help us out a lot as we don't have the proper equipment to test with. Thanks, and I'm glad you got it working.

Yeah, this is the second report of these types of issues. Hopefully we can figure something out with this. If not the "drivers" download is in trouble.

After looking more closely at the two different Fasttrak 37x folders (both raid and sata), I'm almost certain it's a conflict between those two folders. It looks as though having just the raid one there will work as it's a more updated driver, but I can't be sure. Again, if you could please test if you have time, as I mentioned before on my previous post, that would be awesome. Thanks.

Awesome, I thank you personally. I just wish we could have figured this issue out quicker for you, uhhh...well you figured it out on your own, but anyways. I'm glad that the project has helped you recover your data, that is why I started this project!!
In advance I just want to say that I appreciate anything you are able to find out about these "driver" issues.
BTW, I viewed your site. It's pretty cool. I really enjoyed the pictures of Incubus, Coal Chamber, GodSmack, and Stone Sour. That's the kind of music I like and those are some pretty kick ass pics!!

If i remove the 37x_Sata folder everything works with just the UBCD disc
If iI remove the 37x_Raid folder my drive is not seen
So there is definitely a conflict between the sata and raid folder....
If you want me to run any more test, just let me know!

Just as I thought! Thanks for testing, as I really appreciate it. I will keep the driver files there, just in case, but just comment them out so they wont get added. Thanks again!
