First off, I'm using a Dell Windows XP Sp1 CD. Would this work at all, or should I simply not bother?

Second, do I really need to include the DOC/VALUEADD/SUPPORT/OEM folders, or are they cruft I can safely remove?

Thanks!

PhoenixPath,

Your DELL CD should work. There is a discussion on this forum which mentions that some newer CD from DELL (with XP SP2) do not work.

You can copy your whole XP CD on your hard drive ! When you will build your UBCD from PEBuilder, the program will only include what it needs in the ISO image.

First, it may work. You can only try. As long as PE Builder accepts the CD as an XP CD to build the ISO image you are half way there. Since it is a Dell CD, you may need to enable the "Dell Fix" plugin before building too.

Second, I don't understand this question. You do not have to worry about the contents of your XP CD that much. Those folders probably aren't even used when building the ISO image so it doesn't add to the CD. You do not have to customize your "source". Please elaborate more so I am able to understand and answer this question.

I was simply going to remove the folders in question, but it looks like pebuilder does not include them in the iso, so it'd be pointlesss to mess with the source in that respect.

However, I ran it at home with my virgin XP CD slipstreamed with SP2 and it worked fine. Ran it on one I had created days before with some components removed (messenger service, uPnP, NT Backup, etc) and a customized setup (classic logon, classic desktop, etc).

Figured having removed services and drivers might screw up the pebuilder, and it did. So don't use customized install CDs to build PE form...got it.

Gonna try it with the Dell CD today because the CD I burned at home yesterday no longer boots for some reason (It did the first time...in a virtual PC, anyway).

I'll be using the Dell XP Sp1 CD. Won't modify a thing. I'll try it with and without the dellfix unless someone who has messed with the SP1 cds before verifies weather it is needed or not with the SP1 CD.

Thanks for the replies.
