I've just made a CD and used it. Most tools work just fine, but Antivir just starts (fully as it seems), then freezes completely.
I've found another post about this without an answer. There is also an error message that the file "X:\i386\Profiles\DefaultUser\Desktop" does not exist. Antivir might try to put a shortcut on the desktop and consequently fail.
I use the original XP Pro (no SP) slipstreamed with SP2, and it is not hardware depandent (same error on two computers)
Could profiles.inf be edited to get rid of the problem (ie put the desktop elsewhere)?

I assume you mean this post?

Are you using a different language version of XP?

BartPE only supports the English version of WinXP, although some people have had success with other lang versions although sometimes a slight mod is necessary.

Have a look at these posts:

I've found AntiVir to run fine off the hard disk. I dunno, I suppose the plugin info is present, so it works.

I update AntiVir before booting up to the CD and then use the explorer after booting to find and execute the AV executable on my hard disk. I almost always find some bug hiding in a system folder when I do this. Also, AntiVir has been really cranking out updates, both program updates and AV definitions, over the last week or two. So, you might use this workaround for your problem and have fresh AV files to boot. [pun intended]
