Looking for a plugin called largeide fix - the original author's site is down. I lost this plugin during partition corruption. Went to various plugin repositories, and they all link to author's now defunct site. TIA.

I thought that I downloaded this plugin at one point but I can't find it anywhere. I'll let you know if I find it.

BTW. Do you know what the actual filename is (so I have something accurate to search for)?

As best I can tell from 911cd.net, it's called Large IDE-Fix. The story goes, a fellow PE user and Geek who has 1.6 TB of HD space used a defragger from a PE disc, and it trashed much of his data... to quote, "But there is one HUGE problem with the ata/raid card drivers. I have 1.6tb worth of large drives sitting in my computer all on one variety or another of pata/sata/raid mass storage cards. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with lba48 and the 127gb limitation in drive addressing, but for some older drivers, any data past 127gb gets ignored if it’s not properly set up to handle lba48."

"Long story short, I booted into winpe on my own computer and decided to run a defrag. Bad move, since the drivers on the PE disc don’t support lab48, and thusly, anything the drive touched got completely thrashed. Worst part is that since a defrag was performed, file recovery isn’t possible since none of the chunks match up or make sense anymore."

"I’m still running damage control here on my files, I’m hoping I haven’t lost too many things."

Hence the need for thr LargeIDE-Fix plugin!

Contacting the author directly may be the only way, unless someone has the exact plugin you need.

Did anyone ever find it?? Actually I think it was called "atapi_824146", at least that's what it's called in an older version of this project. It is named wrong and actually is an old hotfix from MS, 331958. This "problem" was fixed in SP2 for XP so it was removed from the project a while ago.

If you still need a copy of it I have it!

The plugin I'm looking for is indeed the same one referenced in DG42's post at the boot.us link - the author's email does not work...

Though the problem may have been fixed in sp2, there are many folks who don't build from sp2 (myself included) so the Large IDE-Fix plugin is a valuable addition.

It is not the patch_824146 plugin as exists in PE Builder 3.032, as that plugin is the RPCSS Service Security Patch fix...
