Can we get some FAQ/Help/How-To on how to create plug-ins for the project?

Just like everyone else, I don't have the time to just read the FAQs on all software involved in producing UBCD/UBCD4WIN.

Reason I even suggest this is that Ghost 9 disc I bought has a WinPE boot into SAV. It can be done (at least with what they use - naybe not Bart's PE).

Willing to help with whatever needs to be done, but don't have time to read reams of info pages.

Well, a lot of the time, there is already a plugin out there for you to download for your specific software. Otherwise, you can check these sites for a couple of plugin 'builders'. I'm not sure how well they work (haven't used them) but they would be the easiest way to go, other than having someone else here explain the process to you. Thanks. smile.gif

Actually, the best way to figure out to build plugins is to read the the documentation that comes with Bart's PE. I suggest doing it yourself also because it's a great learning experience. Although can become quite frustrating when trying to build one for a more complex application that is calling all kinds of different files, registry entries, etc. For these I use several different tools to each only provides help a little and doesn't always give me everything I need. After downloading this project, you have a lot of help really! You can view how all the plugins are setup in the project and you can use them as references for the correct setup and how other settings look. Then of course there is also the 911CDForum. It's a great place to see what others are doing and see if someone else already has a working plugin built for your application. I'm not trying to "knock" my own forum, but we focus on this project. Support for the project and working on adding new tools for it is our main priority and if we have the time we do not mind helping, however we usually don't. If I had more Moderators or volunteers willing to help with the "commercial software plugin repository" then I wouldn't have to suggest other sources. With limited time and help it is hard for us to honestly even find time to work stuff for the project!

Last I remember about Ghost 9.0.....people were having many problems getting it to work in BPE. Although I could be wrong and it's been a while since I've done a search for Ghost. Good luck!

I too would like to add plugins, however, I think I have a lot of catching up to do this. In one of Bart`s web pages he mentions a method whereby you simply add the .cab file of whatever app. you wish to integrate into the CD. Is there a method this simple? If there is a method whereby you add the .cab file is there anything else required? I know this is pretty simple but with no programming experience I need simple. If there are things I need to know, from what source might I learn them? I`ve pored over both the Bart instructions and the UBCD4Win instructions and still walk away confused. I`m trying to get up to programming speed but on my own I tend to wind up going in circles. Thanks for the help guys.

Hi Plain

The best way of learning about how to build plugins it to read the instructions AND look at lots of existing plugins.

Regarding CAB files this is a way of distributing completed plugins instead of using ZIP or RAR archive files etc
It does not help you make them. The files have to be extracted from the CAB before use.
Cab files are rarely used for distributing plugins so can safely be ignored

Thank you Mike for replying. Okay, you answered a lot of my questions. I appreciate it. It looks like I need to study more. I found one that is very comprehensive on XPProCD. I`m going to try to start there. Hey!, I might actually learn something.
