Hi all,

I'm having problems Slip Streaming Windows 2000 and Service Pack 4.
The two CDs are in seperate drives. The version of Win 2K I have is OEM and when I run AutoStreamer, clicking on the magnifying glass has no effect. It will not find the CD in the drive. And clicking on the SP4 magnifying glass does not find the Update.exe file. The file is there but the program cant find it. wub.gif

What am I doing wrong ?

Hi Wainui

I've been meaning to create a Win2K with SP4 slipstreamed so your post gave me the excuse to do it smile.gif

What OS are you trying to do the slipstream on?

If it's anything else other than Win2K I don't think it will work as the SP won't extract as it's on the wrong OS (I'm certain I've read this somewhere).

Copy your Win2K installation CD to your hdd rather than pointing it directly at your CD-Rom as this can cause problems.

I've just slipstreamed a Corp Version of Win2K and that went very smoothly giving me a ISO file I can now burn to CD.

Hi Stidyup,

Thanks for the reply. I am using Windows XP on this project because it has two CD-Rom drives but I will use the Win 2K Computer and try your suggestion. Do I need to copy the entire Win 2K CD ? Would not just the i386 folder do ?

The other thing is being an OEM product two CDs are in the installation pack the second CD contains the Win 2K O/S. Do I need to copy both CDs. ?

Cheers.

I tried your suggestion Stidyup and copied the Win2K CD to a folder (Win2KSP1) on the C: drive. The Service Pack 4 is in the CD-Rom drive D:

In AutoStreamer I selected the option to Manually Customize my installation

In Windows Share I tried selecting several paths but could not make the Red Cross on the left to turn into a Green Tick. e.g. C:\Win2KSP1 unsure.gif

In the Service pack File I found the right path (D:\2KSP4\i386\Update\Update.exe) but I get this error message : The file you specified is not a valid Microsoft Service Pack. Check the path and file.
If you continue to receive this message your file may be corrupt.[/B] wub.gif

Hi Wainui

We've not forgotten about your problem, we're just having a look around to find out what your problem might be and hopefully give you a few more suggestions to try. smile.gif

I would suggest downloading SP4 from the MS site and trying that. Or maybe just try copying the SP from the CD to the HD as well and point AutoStreamer there. smile.gif

Hi Stidyup & LittleBUGer,

Thank you both for your advice. I have tried everything and I'm sorry to say that I am not making progress. I'm just wondering is it because I am using an OEM version of Win2K ? Because the only thing I haven't tried is a version of Win2K that is non Academic or OEM. And that will be my next job.

Cheers.

I am making slight progress with this project. I have tried a method of "Integrating" Win2k with SP4 using Start then Run and typing :

"D:\2k SP4\i386\Update\update.exe" -S:C:\W2000

D:\ being the CD-Rom drive.

The CD-Rom fires up and the LED flickers for a short while, but then everything dies down. I don't get a progress GUI of the Integration, if you know what I mean. unsure.gif
