My friend forgot his Windows XP Professional login password, now his computer boots up to the login screen and ONLY shows his account name there and asks for a password which he doesn't know.. is there any way to find this out?

could the UBCD4Win disk do this for me?

Thanks

If you boot into safe mode, you can log in as "Administrator" (which doesn't have a password by default) and remove the password from his account.

If the Administrator account is password protected and he doesn't know the password then you can use "Password Renew" on the ubcd4win CD to clear the password.

You don't need to go into safe mode, just press ctrl-alt-del on the welcome screen if your using it this will bring up a dialog box to change the name to administrator. Log in on the administrator account and just delete the password, providing they haven't password protected that account. If they have then you'll need to use the CD and password renew.
