Hi. I've had my share of Windows problems in my Windows history, and I thought that this product would be a great way to recover my system in the event it would be "crashed".

Unfortunately, I have a Compaq Presario PC that was given to me in October 2004, and it does not have a Windows XP CD for reinstallation of XP. I would really like to have this Ultimate Boot CD for Windows, but I can't make it without the CD.

Does anyone know how I can get past this obstacle?

Thanks,
Stagelight

I'm afraid the only legal solution we can offer is to buy a copy of Win XP or get the source installation disk for the compaq which came with the PC when purchased.

If it's a oem PC you may find that the I386 folder and all the other files are on the PC anyway. Try slipstreaming SP2 with autostreamer and point it to C: You may get lucky and be able to build a XP CD to work from. If someone has deleted the I386 folder of the C drive then your stuck and you'll need to buy a CD.

I know Dell's have the I386 folder on the hdd and I've managed to slipstream SP2 into it however I don't know if compaqs are setup the same.

Oh, oh, thank you! I didn't know I only needed the i386 folder! Yay!

Yes, there is a directory "C:\i386" in the C: . Awesome. So that's all I need to do?

Well, good news. I used my C:\Windows\I386 folder and it worked. So, I now have a UBCD4Win and I feel a lot more secure. smile.gifBut the only thing is that I can't get connected to the internet with it, but it does detect my WUSB11 Network Adapter. So maybe I haven't made all the proper adjustments.

Well thank you for your help, and I'm glad I now have the UBCD4Win!

biggrin.gifGood glad to see you figured something out. Did you include the "drivers" package in your build? I also suggest you "play" with it a bit. That way when something bad happens you understand the tools included in the project and will be more "level headed" when trying to fix your system with it.

Yeah, I'm really glad I downloaded and figured it out. I've had my share of Windows problems, such as messed up MBR's when installing Linux. Thankfully, the next time that happens, I won't have to try to find the administrator password for Windows Recovery Console to repair the MBR.

Although the CD startup is a tad bit slow, once it gets going, it's a really good thing to have.

Thank you for developing this, as it will probably be put to some good use because I'm pretty ambitious when it comes to computers.

I will have to check that out to make sure I have internet access when the time comes smile.gif.
