Full Version: AutoStreamer does not accept my CD

hi there
first: i hope this wasn't asked somewhere before. and i'm to tired to look through all 33 pages wink.gif(it's 03:17 AM here)

ok, my problem:
i wanted to use AutoStreamer to stream SP2 to my XP Home CD. but it doesn't accept my XP CD (it was delivered with my computer. it's a german xp version from dell "CD for a new installation of microsoft windows xp home edition")
i think it's because it's 1) a german version and 2) a dell-cd. i know from other threads that i will probably have some other problems because it isn't english, but i would like to try it.
so my question is: can i 'cheat' AS so it thinks it's a good XP CD?
maybe i could open the exe with dasm32 and search the jump point and change it that it accepts it when it thinks it's not a valid cd or something like that (i diddn't use dasm for a while anyway)

i'll try to stream manually, but maybe i'm to dumb for that (and if i where successfull then at least this thread would be good for other users with the same problem)

ps: i've read somewhere that i could use the SP2 to build the cd (without the win cd). is that true?

Hi Klaue

If it's a Dell recovery CD pointing autostreamer at it won't work.

Try pointing autostreamer at C: instead. You should have the I386 folder on your hdd, autostreamer should hopefully slipstream SP2 and give you a ISO file.

To get ubcd4win to work you may need to apply some mods for your language version.

Hi stidyup
thanks for the fast answer
no, it diddn't work with pointing it at my C:
but i coincidentally found another cd..
it's label (original in german, i translated it):

operating system
--------------------
allready installed on your computer
--------------------
CD for reinstalling
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Including Service Pack 2

on the back side there's english text:
"The enclosed CD contains a complete version of your operating systems software. This software has been pre-installed on your system."

i try this cd, then i don't have to stream the other one. just wondering why i have two CD's
Flynn
Not to sure why Dell would send you two disks... we have a hard enough time getting them to send thermal past when we're fixing thier stuff tongue.gifI guess just could yourself lucky.

If that disk already has SP2 on it, you shouldn't need to slip stream, but just in case you do and autostream still gives you crap.. there's always the manual way ohmy.gif

This is a nice tut with pics and everything, hope it helps: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=295

hez guzs, it works} *just the american kezboard lazout confuses me(
i write this with the firefox on the boot cd. this is just cool!
thank you for your help!

i-ll test now how many things work and if there are some applications on the cd which don-t work.

i have just one question left
i used the dell-plugin for building (because i have a dell wink.gif). can i use the CD also on other XP SP 2 computers or only on dell machines <i can-t find the quotation mark, but this should be a question wink.gif)

EDIT: ok, i found the language options, so here's the quotation mark: ?
thank you for adding the language settings, this'll help a lot

EDIT2:
back on windows now. everything worked. this tool's just great.
next time i burn it i try to add the german versions of the programs (for example, antivir is from a german company and i would use the german version)

I'm very glad that you got everything figured out and reported everything back to us. Your information helps many people.

I'm glad that you enjoy the project and it has been very useful for you.

Now to set your "build" to go to your default keyboard layout, follow the instructions in this post:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?sh...054&hl=keyboard

As for switching the defaults for the programs to be in German, please let us know how that works also. It would be awesome if you could even document all of your changes so we could create a "how to" for changing the default language for the tools included in the project. That would be very helpful for thousands of users that speak other languages. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

i try to. but first i have to buy new CDs ^^ (i have only one left and i always keep one left because you never know if you don't need one instantly)
i will help you as good as i can smile.gif

EDIT:
hmm.. maybe i should just make a .rar with the plugins folder, because there are many changes. like with antivir:
unzipping the downloaded installer from free-av.de and put the files in plugin\avpersonal\files, change the avp_nu2menu.xml (for the translated menu), change avpersonal.cmd (the filenames in the installer are all uppercase, but the cmd uses lowercase filenames. i don't remember if dos was case sensitive..) and translate the AntiVirhelp.txt. and that for (i think) all plugins.
it would be easier to simply make an compressed plugins folder with the new versions..
(i could also write an howto for all these things, but i don't think many users would do that)
your decision smile.gif
