Let me know if you don't find a good freeware app to do this (from a floppy) and I'll make you a floppy image that will.

thank you Tom, for this nice offer

I have been surfing the web for a week, and impossible to grab what I am looking for:

a simple and easy to use freeware booting from A:\ that copyes my MBR and able to restore it from A:\ too. simple Huu!

All what I saw were very nice pieces of software, but too much complicated to install and use, and a bit risky for some pieces of it! (which is not worth it at this point)

dual boot Win XP SP2 Home Win XP SP2 PRO 3 principal (1 FAT32 2 NTFS)partitions 1 extended

hoping to receiving this image!

thank you tom

MBRTool

QUOTE
MBRtool is a DOS program designed to backup, restore and manipulate your hard disk MBR.

The MBR could easily be seen as one of the most important sectors on the disk. If anything happens to the contents of this sector, the data on your disk could be unreachable. Or the computer might simply not start anymore.

MBRtool is not an automatic recovery program but will allow users to prevent dataloss (due to MBR corruption) by backing up the MBR, and offers power users all the power they'll ever need to 'mess' with their MBR.

MBRtool is freeware.

MBRtool features include:
Backup, verify and restore the MBR
Backup, restore, wipe and clean track 0
Edit or blank the MBR partition table
Refresh, remove MBR boot code
Write MBR signature bytes
Display MBR to screen or dump to file
- Do all this for either the original MBR or backups
Create 'blank' backup files
Change partition attributes (active, hidden)
Manipulate NT/2000/XP disk admin signature

Notes:
MBRtool can be operated through a menu as well as through command line arguments
If operated through command line, return codes can be used in your batch files
Supports the first 4 hard disks in the system

Is this what you are looking for?

I may have another freeware tool that will do this, I just need to check first.

MBR Wizard will also backup your MBR.

Download here you'll also need floppy image to write the image file to floppy.
gringojack
was giving it a try
