I am extremely impressed withVersion 2.5 of UBCD4WIN - it is a powerful new tool for my Windows troubleshooting arsenal. However I am confused or don't understand how the registry application tools in UBCD4WIN work when I am trying to troubleshoot a WINXP startup/registry problem. When I boot UBCD4WIN and then start hijackthis, I get prompted about whether I want to load remote hives from the registry, and I respond yes, and I am happy, because I can view and modify registry info for a WINXP user on a WINXP system that is broken. However the REGEDIT and other registry tools do not appear to load remote hives - they appear to access registry info for UBCD4WIN / BartPE itself - not for the WINXP user(s) that I am trying to fix.

Am I misunderstanding something with V2.5?? Is hijackthis the only tool that will allow me to view/modify registry info for a broken WINXP system from after I boot from the UBCD4WIN CD?

Thanks.

Use RegEdit PE... then look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE OR HKEY_LOCAL_USER... you'll see things like SOFTWARE_ON_C etc.

That should get you started...
