Full Version: How to build the UBCD4Win....4 idiots

The 3 worst mistakes I made in creating the CD.

1. In the PE Builder main window I ticked "Burn to CD" at the bottom, and it created an image of the "ubcd4win24" file on my CD in the drive. So one Cd went in the bin.
Expert SteelTrepid spoted the mistake & came to the rescue.
Should have let it go in the HD Directory I entered under the ISO/CD tick.
I should have disregarded the paragraph "....Burn to CD" a very nice option now included...." in info files.

2. After the image went in the HD, I used the "CD Burner Pro XP", the free download recommended in info files, to burn properly that ISO file to CD.
There, again, I should have disregarded the tempting big red/blue "BURN" icon in front of me. This burns another image and a second CD goes in the bin.
I should have clicked the well hidden "Write Disc from ISO file...." in "File" of top menus & in resulting window navigated to the Iso file I created on the HD.

This expanded that file to 6 items(336mb), which autoboot & install the program in the PC memory I suppose.

3. and a CLASSIC, I forgot that, although both my CD drives can autoboot a CD whilst in windows, ONLY the MASTER drive, the one with the Link inserted on the master pins at the back of the case, can Autoboot whilst in that sinister black DOS like startup screen.
After many tries, tribulations & upsets, the idea luckily came to me in the middle of the night in bed.
The CD bootsup fine in to the UBCD4Win Gui environment. Fotos in previous post.

Umm, is there a bit of sarcasm and hate in that post, or is it just me?

As for our instructions, I believe they are quite clear so I'm not sure why there were problems in the first place. Also, we now have the Config tool to help out with everything and a new guide up on how to use that. smile.gif

Though, I'm not sure what you mean by the "master" drive as the CD will boot up and load ALL drives, as long as the proper drivers are present to support the motherboard they are connected to. smile.gif

I really don't feel there was anything "bad" in his post. I think he was just being hard on himself because he made many mistakes when trying to create the project. He didn't take the time to read all the instructions and really read and fully understand what he was doing.

At least that's what I thought and got out of his post. I think he's being hard on himself, but in a way I can't blame him. Many times in the past I have messed something up because I didn't take the time to really read about something. I just hope that is post accomplishes one thing--- I hope that other new people to the project will read it and understand that they must be patient and read the site.

Also, the "expert" reference. I wouldn't call myself an expert. I do know a lot about BPE, but still do not consider myself an expert. Although, I guess I am an expert to UBCD4Win......considering the fact that I started this project. blush.gif

There is none of that, shear admiration for you chaps who give us these tools.

No way I thought that would enhance your Help files. Just hoped that if there is anybody else out there needing that low level of first hand expreience, would benefit. After all it is headed "...4 idiots", as per books who taught me the little I know.

I will try the config tool, thanx.

When it autobooted on the second drive, to make sure, I changed the CD drives, which are on the same cable, by making the other master. Sure enough this one boots up now to your BCD4windows, and the other wo'nt.

If this is not standard behaviour as I thought in my sleep, then I must have setup something astray in my PC. But what?

And a second blessing to you Steel, for putting me right on the image.

I too hope the others take heed andl do better than me.

Now how to to network my other PC after booting.

One PC has 2 Lans and the older none, only a NIC and I use no Switches or
Routers just a croccover ca5 cable.

I had hard time to achieve the networking with ICS under full windows.

After I created/tinkered with my first CD, I was plagued by these thoughts that came to me in bed... constantly thinking what about what I can add to my Ultimate CD to make it the More Ultimate CD.

I think I've had to trash about 4 or 5 CDs so far because it hasn't quite made it to the More Ultimate CD stage yet.
