Good morning everyone!
After two days of reading and testing on my Dell Optiplex GX240, I have finally been able to use the Config Tool to create an iso file. I burned it to CD and rebooted on the same Dell to test (didn't choose to have QEMU load it).
After the progress bar starts across the bottom, I get the following error on a black screen:

The file cercsr6.sys could not be found. Press any key to continue.

I pressed a key, and then this came across the bottom:

Setup failed. Press any key to restart your computer.

Any thoughts? Where is this sys file and why isn't in my build? I copied the entire Dell XP Pro w/SP2 cd to a folder on my D: drive, ran the fixdell.cmd and the MS file (I forget the name now) in teh /I386 directory. The Config Tool ran fine with no errors and the iso was created.

Thanks

If this is in the wrong forum topic, please move to the correct one. I wasn't sure where to put it.

Try adding
CODE
cercsr6.sys=4,,4

after the last filename under [SourceDisksFiles]in the fixdellxp.inf
This is assuming that cercsr6.sys is in the i386 folder from your CD.

See if this fixes the problem. Search your hdd for this file, you may need to mod the inf appropriately.

Also check to see if this file exists on your CD or not, I suspect it won't but sometimes these error messages can appear because the CD is corrupted.

Verified that the file was in the I386 directory. Added the above line to the FixDell.inf and ran it. No errors in the PEBuilder log. Selected QEMU this time and the same error came up in the window. BTW, this tool is AWESOME!

Can you burn the ISO to CD-RW and see if you get the same error when it loads.

Same problem on a freshly burned CD.

What happens if you try building with the dell plugin disabled? Will it load then?

Stidyup
The dellfix plugin isn't enabled at all. Should it be? It says on the plugin screen:

dellfix - Dell system -aarich.sys not found erro -DO NOT ENABLE

Thx

By default it's disabled, it appears that not all dell's need this fix and has created quite a bit of confusion and it's own problems.

Try enabling the plugin and see if it brings any joy.

No Joy! BTW, what is this file for? I disabled the Dell drivers on a second attempt - same problem.

Still no luck. I would try it on another system but all I have are Dells (work and home).

New Drivers

Try using the new driver pack and see if that helps to resolve your issue.

Have you got identical dells at work and home or have they all got different chipsets?
