Full Version: networking troubles with Ver. 2.55

I've got a Dell Dimension 2400 that boots just fine with UBCD4Windows Ver. 2.5. Specifically, networking is no problem. It works just as you'd expect it to.

However, when I boot the Dell with Ver. 2.55, networking doesn't work properly. Here's what happens:

UBCD4Windows boots normal. Eventually, it asks: "Do you want to start network support?" I click yes. I see a number of related popup messages, e.g. "PE Netowrk Configurator." I click on the option to have a dynamic ip address. I get more related popup windows, e.g. "Installing network adapters" and "Installing networking components."

PE Network configurator opens again. It sees my Dell's Broadcom 440x ethernet adapter. I click OK.

However, I don't appear to have access to the Internet. Firefox says that google.com, yahoo.com and any other url I try can't be reached.

When I choose Start >System >Network >Show IP configuration, the black box opens but I don't get any text except for "press any key."

The strange thing is this: Ver 2.55 will boot up my two other computers just fine, including providing network support. And Ver. 2.5 will boot up my Dell just fine. There seems to be a problem getting Ver 2.55 to work on my Dell.

Any ideas?

Yeah, there are several other posts about this issue. I think I even mentioned the problem on the site in the "news."

Yes, I'm seeing now what you mean, although up to now I've only seen reports of this problem occurring with networking hardware from Intel. It would appear that we should add Broadcom to the list.

At any rate, the solution seems to be disabling both the "911EXP.Eventlog & MMC Eventlog Viewer" and "911EXP.MMC".

I have no idea what these two things are or how I go about disabling them. Can someone please fill me in?

The easiest way to disable those plugins is by building your UBCD4Win with the Config Tool.. when you get to the plugin or drivers section and don't want something you just remove the checkmark next to that item.... see http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3098 for more info.

Thanks for the response.

That link gives instructions for using the configuration tool when using ubcd4win.exe. Of course, the file for Ver. 2.55 is UBCD4WINV255.exe, and when I click on that file, I don't get any configuration menu resembling the one in the instructions.

To disable these plugins, all you have to do is after you run the PEBuilder program to 'make' your cd, click the "Plugins" button and then find these 2 plugins in the list and click on them to highlight them (one at a time) and then click the 'Enable/Disable' button to toggle whether they are disabled or enabled.

Will do. But can you explain what it is? It appears to be an older version of the UBCD build. Won't this create an outdated version of the disk?
rdsok
FYI... UBCD is the DOS based version of a boot CD.... UBCD4Win is the Windows based version

If you read the pages I linked to it will explain it much more than I can.... Basically its the latest config tool for UBCD4WIN... it downloads all components that are needed including the latest UBCD4WIN, PEBuilder3.13 and Drivers... it also has features that will update the antispyware and antivirus apps...

Okay, this post is morphing into a question about building the CD, which is a whole other forum catageory. Would you prefer I close this thread and start a new one in the appropriate place?

If not, here's what I need to know:

When I click on on ubcd4win.exe, the introduction window opens, but when I click on the red buttons that say Download UBCD4WIN and Download Pebuilder, I'm getting errors.

First, Download UBCD4WIN was giving me problems. I got an error that indicated the download didn't go through (sorry, I didn't write it down). Then it finally went through.

Now, I'm having a problem after clicking the Download Pebuilder. I click Download Pebuilder and I get a popup window that says "PEBuilder is not installed! Do you want to download and inxtall it now? It's about 3mb download (you can proceed without"

I click yes, and the same pop up window comes up again. This repeats ad infinitum.

Y'all have been so helpful already. Thanks for anything more you can suggest.

This will happen if you're building from a directory with spaces in the name/path like "My Documents" or the Desktop.

This is (http://ezpcfix.net/beta/ubcd4win.exe) new that these
good people are still working with.
I like it and think you will too.

Make folder on root drive (c:anyname) with no spaces in what you call the folder.
Place (http://ezpcfix.net/beta/ubcd4win.exe) in it and run it.

Sorry I am no tech.

dangme, how did you build the v2.55 CD you booted up your Dell computer with? Disabling the 2 plugins you reference should take you all of 2 seconds if you are building things the same way. There is no need to use the 'config tool' if you are having trouble figuring it out. Simply build your CD again the exact same way you did the first time except do like I said to disable those 2 plugins.
