Full Version: Can not load network support

I am not sure whether I should be in this forum or the driver forum. I will start here though. Here is my original thread from Techexams.net which explains the situation with the machine: http://www.techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10859

So based on a recommendation by a fellow member in that community, I decided to research and try UBCD.

The UBCD was created successfully (with drivers) without any errors. I started the UBCD on the crashed machine. On startup, the PE Network Configurator - Network Profiles window prompts. The network profile default choice:

x:\i386\system32\penetcfg-dhcp.ini

I click OK...

A window appears indication it is unable to install network adapters.

I go to Start > Network > Load Network Support (DHCP/auto)

In CMD< devices are found but no drivers can be found (including USB Mass Storage)

However the following loaded:

TCP/IP Protocol Driver Service started successfully
DHCP Service is started successfully
NLA Service is started successfully
TCP/IP NetBIOS Service is started successfully

Host name given: bartpe-22628

I try to net use to this machine from another on the network but I am unsuccessful. I also tried from the bad machine without any luck. I do an IPCONFIG /ALL but the only information displayed is:

Windows IP Configuration

What am I doing wrong? How come the network drivers can not be loaded? I installed the optional driver package into the ISO image using pebuilder but I guess the drivers needed for this machine are not loaded or supported with this build.

Thanks for any help!

How did you add the drivers (meaning did you follow the detailed instructions) and which version did you add, the newest 2.01, or the old 1.6? Thanks. smile.gif

I downloaded and installed the ubcd4winV255.exe & UBCD4WinDriversV201.exe. For the drivers file, I extracted them into the Drivers folder of the pebuilder root directory C:\pebuilder313\drivers.

I believe I see where you made your mistake.. you should see these instructions here http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3208

which plainly state...

2.) Follow the normal instructions on how to create a UBCD4Win CD up to the point at which you would use the “old” method of including the “old” drivers. At that point, run the UBCD4WinDrivers .exe file and extract it to your pebuilder folder, NOT your ‘pebuilder/drivers’ folder. When you do this, you may see a command prompt window pop up briefly. This is normal so please ignore it.

I downloaded the Dell driver for this particular machine. I know it defeats the purpose of having a universal tool but in this case it is worth making one specifically for this task. Besides, Im learning about this project more and more.

I am going to delete the folders, re-extract the downloads and start again...thanks for catching my mistake smile.gif

I extracted pebuilder to the root C:\ and then extracted ubcd and drivers to the root pebuilder folder C:\pebuilder\.

This time, while building the file it would not create the ISO file. The error indicated that a irbus.inf file was missing. I went online and downloaded the file and inserted it into the XPHomeSP2 folder saved onto my local hard drive. Just wierd because it did not indicate any errors the first ISO I created.

I recreated the CD but still no luck. When the network support attempts to install I get the following errors:

Found Device: PCI\VEN...
No DriverNodes found for device.

This is displayed about 7 times for different devices. I still can't access my USB device either.

I would use CD-ROM and burn her files to it but she has several GB and that would take quite some time. Network connectivity is me most desired option. If that can't work, then I would like to use my 1GB USB stick.

Any other suggestions? I have read the DIY for adding your own driver files but I am confused on this a bit. I have the drivers for this specific ethernet card but how should I add them? Should I extract the files into the /drivers folder or maybe the /pebuilder root folder?

While I was able to catch your previous oversite.. I'm also a UBCD4Win newbie... so I'll let the "experts" take it from here.. I just don't know the "ins and outs" of building yet...

I haven't made enough mistakes yet to have learned it all smile.gif

I actually restarted the machine and it recognized the USB stick. I will just copy the folders and files and transport them manually to my machine.

The network option would have been mush easier and faster but oh well sad.gif

Thanks for your help!
