I have found that the UNIX ls and ls -al command work from a UBCD command prompt. This makes me wonder if I am really running a Linux live cd rather than anything to do with Windows. Don't take this wrong. I think the project is great. I had better luck with the first CD I built some months ago. The latest version with Firefox is not as good. I can not get Firefox to work, but I can ping network addresses on the Internet from a command prompt. I am using an old 600 mhz emachine, and the video settings give me some ugly results. I wish there was a way to find a more compatible video driver for the old emachine.

Cheers,

Turbofan

Take a look in the plugins folder & you will find... "\UnixUtils"

Some of these command line tools are great & are included as a plugin.

There are a couple "known Bugs" in the current release, but they will be eliminated shortly.

As for the "Firefox" issue, close it after the first run & re-run firefox & it now works,
this will also be fixed in the new version.

If you want to fix it now, look at Digiwiz's new firefox plugin.

hilander pretty much nailed it on the head. Except I want to elaborate a little more. The project is a "toolkit" or "collection" of great useful software for anyone. I try to keep it diverse by including many different kinds of tools. I'm not going after the linux crowd out there with this project, they already have a lot of great bootable distro.'s! This project is for many people. I want it to be a good solution for many people.

What video driver is used on your PC?
Which model# of Emachine do you have & is there a download link to the driver?

I have a 600 mhz emachine with an onboard Intel 82810 Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2604

I dual boot this computer to ME or W2K Pro. Under ME, I am using driver 181XDW9X.drv

I am going to try UBCD4WIN on a new Dell laptop and see what it does. I have tried it in the past on my daughter's Compaq laptop and I get a screen size that only fills half of the available laptop screen. I get the same half-screen result for W2K Pro on the Dell when I set the resolution to 800 x 600. Most of the time, I use the Dell with a 21-inch monitor with 1280 x 10768 under W2K Pro.

one word if you can absolutely avoid intel onboard graphics. Microsoft does not include them by default. I'm not sure why but they are very dificult to get going under barts pe.

Having said that try the latest drivers. They already include the intel driver pack which I use to run on just this type of hardware. The hwpnp plugin is required to get them running also and it is inlcuded in the latest version of the drivers also. Without hwpnp i have never found a way to get intel onboard graphics working. After you boot into the system the graphics will still look bad but then you can manually reset them to a better resolution. in the menus are already a bunch of preset sizes for you to choose from.
