I dont really understand any of this!

So do i just download the UBCD on the main page and the drivers if necessary and burn it onto a cd?

Or do i have to use UBCD4WIN to build my own.

I dont get anything because im getting confused with the main prgoram and the config tool which requires XP CD/Files which i dont know where or dont have.

Please give me the simplest way to set this up and step by step instructions.

This Software Sounds Great!

I mostly just need the registry tools to backup my computer just incase of a severe crash where my computer wont even boot.

If your system has XP installed on it, you ahould have recieved a CD also.

If no CD was provided, check for an "I386" directory on your hard drive.
Coolio10
I found it here C:\WINDOWS\I386.

Does that sound correct?

And my computer did not come with a xp cd it only has a restore cd.
Coolio10
The config tool is not working, every time i download drivers it gets run-time errors.

What is the "SIZE" of c:\windows\i386? right-click & choose properties.
number of files also...

Does the restore CD have an i386 directory?
Coolio10
It is 423MB and has 6019 files.

Doesnt matter i tried it and the comfig tool said it was wrong and missing some files.

Also i cant download any drivers because all the links are broken for v1.6

That's not necessarily true. Normally its just missing the "TAG" files that identify the version.
Coolio10
So What Do I Do?

And if you have the v1.6 drivers can you give them to me please.
rdsok
These are available from the Download page on the main website http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm

Please don't try to direct link to my files. Just direct people to http://downloads.littlbuger.info so they can go from there. And yes, I have v 1.6 as well as 2.01. smile.gifI would also suggest trying to build the CD "manually" without the config tool. smile.gif

@LittlBUGer,

Got ya.... incidentally.. I did just link to the location of the file and not directly to it but I'll still use the other link instead if needed.

If you wish... always feel free to edit or delete an inapropriate post of mine like that... but mention it so I don't do it again.
Coolio10
Thanks guys for the help!

Now i just need to get XP files from somewhere.

I finally finished until the builder is missing a ton of files!

Before you make alterations to the build... its usually recommended to do a "dry" run without making any changes, then when you make changes if you get errors its easier to find a solution.
SteelTrepid
You really need to read the "how to build" on the site.

I see many plugins that you either added or didn't delete from the original BPE download.

PLEASE for the sake of my sanity.....read the "how to build" page on the site and try to understand it. Get a feel for the process. Follow the instructions and then try to build the project BEFORE you add anything else.

I am missing tcpip.sys?

How is that possible when its needed for your networking to work.

should i just steal one from the system32 directory on my computer.

after this all my problems are gone and ill leave you alone biggrin.gif.

Sorry Trepid For All These Nooby And Silly Questions. glare.gif
SteelTrepid
You aren't being a bother....please don't think that. I'm just sure your issues are caused by something else. That file is not called upon by any of the plugins that are in UBCD4Win. So you have to understand that we will not know what the problem is since it's something that isn't included. It's not fair to report errors with the project when they are caused by something else. That is what the BPE Support area of the forum is for.
Coolio10
I Will Just Add The TCPIP.sys From My System32 Directory And See What Happens.

Thanks For Your Help!

It Worked And I Now Have The CD!!!! smile.gif

Can someone just show me a screenshot of it working properly so i can make sure and later i will post a picture of mine.

Here is an image of mine in qemu.

Does that look right and how do i access the programs?

Or is that only visible once burned.

That looks right. Click the "Start" button to access the programs.

I think the confusion that Coolio10 may have here is that the resolution that the UBCD4Win is created at is the same as the resolution Coolio10 is using on his desktop.... therefore the Start button that pcuser is talking about is currently hidden behind the Windows Start button.... if you have you taskbar set to hide, then you should see the other Start button in the QEMU window.

Either way... when you boot the CD... you will see the full Start button / taskbar.

Currently I build mine at 800x600 then if I wish, I switch the resolution after booting. Then when I test it in QEMU, I can see the whole screen including the Start button.

It's interesting that the log shows:

... and that you seem to have produced a bootable CD.
It has been recommended to point pebuilder/ubcd4win.exe to C:\ (for C:\I386), if you don't have XP installation media.

Can anyone help setup my networking using the config tool.

It has DHCP enabled

Here is the network setup:

Broadband connection: Connected
WAN IP address: xx.xx.xxx.xx
Subnet mask: xxx.xxx.xxx.x
Default gateway: xx.xx.xxx.x
Primary Domain Name System (DNS): xx.xxx.xx.xx
Secondary DNS: xx.xxx.xx.xxx

I am using a router so thats why i dont know.

If you need more information just tell me.
SteelTrepid
I don't think it's very safe to "broadcast" your system information like that. Very easy to get hacked by doing that.

Please just ask questions on how to do what you want to do. Don't give out information like that.

The default settings should work for DHCP but if you do happen to run into any problems then just post your UBCD4WinBuild.log
