I know you can't add anything to a CD without burning so I'm not talking about that. I would like to know if stuff gets added to the computer you use UBCD4Win on automatically or not.

For example if I am using the CD and surfing the web will the websites I surf to show up in the History of the computer I am using? What about playlist, MRU, cookies, index.dat, cache files. stuff saved to the clipboard etc?

I know that UBCD4Win has full read and write access. But I would like to know if...

It automatically saves this info to the computer the CD is used on.
If it does save stuff automatically can this be turned off

So I guess basically I am asking .. If you use UBCD4Win does it leave any trace on the computers you use it on?

I can only speak to the plugins I've written (which I don't think have made it into any "official" version" of UBCD4Win... but, for example, Opera, Firefox, and Trillian write all their stuff to the RAMDrive, so no trace is left on any computer (designed with that purpose in mind). I think even my eMule plugin also defaults to saving files to the RAMDrive, though my memory needs defragging on that one. All are configurable to save to the drive letter/folder of your choice however. I like big RAMDrives, so is beneficial for me and my uses. YMMV.

You'll find them all HERE

Actually Digi some of your plugins are in the project. Sometimes (in the past) it seems like you have more time than I do and when a plugin is requested you sometimes get one out quicker than I do. Rather than spend the time creating the plugin myself I've used yours. So if you look at the INF's of some of the plugins you will see that the plugin was created by you. Sometimes I modify them a little and add the "Modify by" to the INF. So I always keep the author's name their so they get the credit for their work.

Nothing in the project should write anything to you hard drive unless you specify it to do so. Any tool that needs to write to a file is setup to run in the ram drive. During boot Bart PE does read and write a little to the hard drive. I'm not sure what it writes but it's very minimal. If there was a way I could stop that I would! But it doesn't leave traces that you've run the CD on that system. Since some people use this project for data recovery it would be really stupid for the project to write a bunch of stuff to the hard drive. It would also be stupid to make the project dependant on writing stuff to the hard drive because sometimes it can't be read. It's corrupt or damaged and people are booting the project to try and fix that.

So simply, NO the project doesn't leave any traces. smile.gif
