Hi

I am new to this message board. and new to ubcd as well, anyhow, I have managed to create a ubcd and it works really well, however one of the features is the xp rdp client and this works really well again, but the one thing that I would love to be able to do is create the profiles as .rdp on the desktop so that you don't have to keep setting up the connection every time you use it.

Please can someone tell me if this is possible as I have been trying for the last few days to no avail.

mstsc.exe seems to look for the profile in the my documents folder, so I tried to add this to the cd in attempt to let it find the .rdp profiles, but it hasn't worked.

Please can someone help me before I go mad.

post the exact folder & file name where you want the file added.
ie.. %ramdriv%\documents and settings\default user\my documents\MY-FILE.RDP

All you need to do is copy the .rdp file to the directory durring AUTORUN.

Either add it to one of the existing autorun_*.cmd files, or create a simple plugin for it.

If you need the plugin writen for you, just ask, it's only a few lines but I need to know what
the EXACT FILE NAME & location you want you file copied to.

yes I see that you have to copy the file into ram so it can see it. I suppose that it's would be easy to just open up the existing iso and just edit the inf file ?
what would be the syntax? something like

copy <cdlocation> %ramdrive% <ramdrivelocation>
ie:-
copy i386\profiles\my documents\*.rdp %ramdrive%\i386\profiles\my documents\*.rdp

ahhh ok, well with rdp you get the option to save the file to where you want.

what I mean by this is that when you create the profile by entering in the address that you want to connect to, you then use the drop down menu to save the .rdp to where you want.
Now I am sure you already know this and I have probably got the wrong end of the stick again, but I want to be able to use a profile that connects me to a netbios name in this case, globalts1 and another called globalts2 and another called globant1.

all these I would like on the desktop.

in short what I am trying to achieve is a thin client with preconfigured destinations.
I hope this may give you some idea of where I am trying to go.
sorry if this isn't the answer that you need still I am just trying to give you as much info as pos.

Hmmm!!

Still looking at what it is that i'm trying to acheive, am I trying to have the .rdp on the cd and then load that into the memory, or am I adding the .rdp to the cd and when the remote session loads it looks to then cd to find the .rdp profile, the .rdp profiles that I need are globalts2 and globalts1, please can you point me on the right direction.

Ok now I have done what you were suggesting, I have used the rdp and saved the profiles to the my documents directory, now the funny thing is that when I go and have a look in the directory to see if they are there, they are. But if I copy a profile from my hard drive to that same folder and then run rdp, it wont find it, so it must be saving the profile elsewhere in the memory, but where ?????

I was wondering if I could get you to write the plugin for me concerning this. The path is:
%ramdriv%\UBCD4Win User Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Jim.rdp

Thanks,

Ok, I figured out the rdp problem...
First I save the info for my custom rdp settings under "save as". then, I configured the inf and autorun so the saved settings were on the CD, which wasn't good enough because when I tried to search for the saved settings it took to long to go all the way to the rdp folder on the CD in X:\. So I used autorun to move the saved settings to the RAMDRIVE so when the dialog box popped up, I clicked the B:\ on the left side of the box. The inf file consists of:

; rdp.inf
; PE Builder v3 plug-in INF file for rdp
; Created by Bart Lagerweij

[Version]
Signature= "$Windows NT$"

[PEBuilder]
Name="Network: rdp"
Enable=1

[WinntDirectories]
a="Programs\rdp",2

[SourceDisksFiles]
autorun_rdp.cmd=2,,1

[SourceDisksFiles]
saved-settings.rdp=a,,1
----------------------------------
and the autorun_.cmd consists of:

@echo off
Title=RDP profiles Autorun
copy %~d0\Programs\rdp\saved-settings.rdp %RAMDRV%\Jim's_Stuff\saved-settings.rdp
exit
----------------------------------
Now, if you look in the autorun file you'll see the folder "Jim's_Stuff" which doesn't exist on the RAMDRV by default so I created it to keep the root from filling up and looking junky. To create the folder I added the following line to the autorun.cmd file inside autorun folder:
md %RAMDRV%\Jim's_Stuff
which in turn created the needed Jim's Stuff folder on the RAMDRV.
p.s. NO SPACES for new folders are allowed, thus the "_" between Jim's Stuff!

Any questions email me.

Ok, here is an update a year later! If you want the computer box to show your ip address or DNS name, go into the registry on the host and go to: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default".
Next, export to a familiar location as a .REG file. Then use a reg-to-inf program to convert it to a .inf Default.AddReg entry and add it to your .INF file or append it so you don't have to worry about it.
