OK, first off there is another forum dealing with SATA HD Issues here:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3314
The plugin link is no longer working so I was unable to try that fix. wacko.gif

NOTE: I'll post updated information in a post edit right up top here as I get it.

Problem:

I'm unable to get UBCD4 for Windows 2.55 to see my RAID0 harddrive.

System Specifications:

Motherboard:

Intel Desktop Board D875PBZ
Intel P4 HT Processor 3.0 GHz, 512 KB L2 cache, 0.13 micron
4 x Kingston 512MB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC 3-3-3 Single Rank
BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC

SATA150 channel 1 & channel 2 configured RAID0:

2 x WD740GD Raptor - SATA150, 74 GB, 10000 RPM, 8 MB Cache

IDE 0 in master possition:

1 x WD1200BB Caviar - EIDE (Ultra ATA/100), 7200 RPM, 2 MB cache

IDE 1 in master possition:

Plextor PX-716AL DVD±R/RW CD-R/RW internal E-IDE (ATAPI)

NOTE: All other Devices are disconnected and removed for simplification.

Couple of common answers:

Yes, the Intel RAID utility is on and set to RAID0.
Yes, the System Bios is enabled for SATA and RAID.
Yes, the system BIOS sees the 2 drives.
Yes, the drives boot WinXPpro if I'm not using the boot disk.
Yes, all drivers are in the drivers pack and are the most current.

NOTE: Make sure you have done the same if your having this issue.

Solution:

First, nice avatar and signature!! Really like them.

Your problem is probably just drivers. Hopefully LittlBUGer or webmedic come around soon, they should be able to help you.

Sometimes NEWER is not BETTER. What version of the drivers are you using in XP?

Do you have the original driver floppy disks that came with the raid hardware?
You can try pressing f6 at bootup & use the floppies.
If this works, replace the drivers in the driver pack with the version that works.

If the floppy boot method works & you still cant figure out how to add the drivers to the build
sent them to us & we will show you what to do, or build a simple plugin for them.

Ya, I've tried the F6 loading of drivers and I tried most current as well as original in my build.

Right now I just decided to delete all the build files and redownload everything again and verify checksums just incase something was bad. I'll report back soon.
LittlBUGer
Which drivers are you using, the 1.6 or "new" BTS 1.01? Thanks. smile.gif

I have done a build for both now. Something is wrong with the system, will post again after I diagnos it.

thanks everyone so far for your input! wub.gif

Well I tried both the driver pack methods and neither worked even tried to both on the same build. I Followed the Video and the Web page instructions, maybe I was just doing something wrong.

In the end I put the CD together manually using the 1st drivers release dated after SP2 came out. Took forever, but that worked great. I was able to load some full versions and upgrades too. Think I have a very nice Boot CD and have you guys to thank.

I wish I could have figured out why the utility did not work for me but not knowing enough about it I just decided that it was faster to do it manually.

I think you guys are doing a great service here, its not easy for people to find boot disks that are clean and useful.

Thank you! wub.gif

I'm having the same problem with my intel mb with RAID type 1

How did you get the "1st drivers release dated after SP2 came out"...the intel site only offers one

and how do you put the CD together manually?

I'm:
Installing Bart's PE...renaming "plugin"...extracting UBCD4Win...and drivers...Running Bart's PE Builder...etc...(which seems pretty manual)

how did you do it?

thanks, Stefan

Stefan,

In my case I only dropped in the drivers for the comp I was working on. It would take a longer to manually do every driver in the build manually. To do this you have to inject it into the cabs in the XP CD files. If you look at the cabs for a few minutes you should be able to figure out where to but your drivers. There might be an easier way if you don't want to want to learn about drivers right now using the old driver injection method. Or just go Linux and you will become a driver expert! tongue.gifSorry that was a joke, all the Linux people are laughing and all the Windows people are looking around wondering what was funny, HAHA.

My problem was that the driver was freezing up the installation of drivers on boot up. I was unable to load drivers after boot-up because the driver install was always hanging and as far as I know there is no way to stop the process without restarting.

If that is your problem you can use the old driver method and skip the new method. press F6 when prompted at the beginning of the CD boot. Manually load raid driver at that time. Not sure if it was just me or what but I found the new version of driver injection to not work. I'm sure the gurus here will post soon enough and they are much more knowledgeable then me. Also if a comp is a total basketcase you might want to remove all your non essential hardware. All you need is mobo prossessor ram vidio hard drive and CD drive to work on it. That's about the first thing I do when I have an issue with a comp acting up and don't know why yet. I even remove all the ram I can but I'm a bit anal. By the way don't mess with the hardware if you don't know what your doing, Its easy to do but you can cause alot of damage if you handle it wrong.

Just currious, what is the reason your making the UBCD for Windoes? I resently learned quite abit about windows and might be able to help you.

Good luck

Another thing, you can use ERD Commander if your in a hurry and it plays nice with SATA.

UBCD owns ERD Commander because you can add so much more to it, its legal and free, however For most issues ERD Commander works just fine.

With my UBCD I can walk up to any system and do just about anything I want. ERD Commander costs $300 and has some security problems with NTFS partitions that are encrypted or corrupt. I use an altered version of ERD File Manager for NT4 in my UBCD (note to ERD, I have a licence and I've never distributed my altered version) that resolves those issues and was my reason for switching to UBCD. Depending on what you do professionally, most of the issues I had with ERD Commander you will probably never see.

Admins I hope I have not done something taboo by mentioning ERD here, let me know if I have. wub.gif

How can I get pissed at a guy with a Ren avatar????!!!!

Seriously though....the project was compared to ERD a long time ago and by far won the fight! The only thing I honestly find lacking is support (documentation) materials. I hope someday the project will have enough people helping that this will not be an issue. I also think that most people would be willing to research and figure out the tools within the project IF they have the time to. What is worth more to you? A few hours or $300?? In a crisis or emergency I totally understand that some (most) people will freak out and possibly spend $300 for the software.
I just really hope that people find this project before disaster strikes! Then they have the time to check it out and understand the tools. Like you said, you can't beat free!!!

Comparision can be found here between UBCD4Win and ERD.

This comparision was with UBCD4Win V1.x

HAHA, Ren is so evil...yet lovable! wink.gif

Ya I totally agree, like I said UBCD pwns ERDC. I don't know this guys situation though and I've had a system blow up on me while I had people out at a trade show launching our site to the world when things whet bad fast and I needed something fast. ERD has no issues with SATA/RAID in any version so it might be good if this is an emergency. That comparison link from stidyup is about a year and a half old and is no longer accurate. Yet still UBCD does more and is free and I think that was his point.

I think most people find this site after disaster strikes and Microsoft can't help. blink.gif

Too bad Microsoft is so vigilent with copy write stuff. An ISO all ready to go would be great for some people to get started and I think its safe to say you have at least an illegal copy of XP if you need a boot CD. Microsoft can be so silly sometimes in its policing.
