HI

I have a dual boot + cmdcons
It worked fine for 6 months
I make lot of ghost images with norton 9.00 just in case, that I restore when needed (mostly on the default partition)
Recently, I restored the second partition. All was OK with the first one as well as cmdcons.... but I now get the following: windows loading stops and freezes on logo, mouse is OK!
Would there be a way to test and use this partition separately?

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="--> MS Win XPSP2 Home" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="--> MS Win XPSP2PRO Pro" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="--> Console de r‚cup‚ration MS Win XP" /cmdcons

I did a fixboot G: --> no change
So far, I havnt modified MBR or attempted to make any change

Hi

How risky is the FIXMBR command?

I had a similar issue once that turned out to be a corrupted pagefile.

Its possible that the second windows xp installation is trying to use the wrong pagefile.
The location of these files is marked by sectors in the registry, not just a filename.

Try deleting c:\pagefile.sys (windows will automatically create a new one) & boot the second partition.
You might also try accessing safe mode by pressing f8 during boot, to see if you can get access to the partition.

This can also happen if the system drive letter has changed from when windows was first installed on that partition.

This has happened to be in the past and I had to use THIS procedure to change it back.

Hi guys
thank you for helping!

As you suggested, I deleted pagefile (on next boot) from C: nothing better happened
I tried calling G: thru safe mode, and windows quit loading at the same spot, leaving me on a beautiful frozen screen and an active mouse!

this dual booting worked very fine for 6 months. I use to make ghosts from C: and G: each time I make substancial changes to them. I restore those on C: quite often. That was following that G: restoration that the prob arised.... And I believe it's the very first restoration for this partition

It might be further on, in the the loading process?

Hi all

Finally, I localised the problem. For some reason drive letters got messed up. I put them back to what I wanted them to be. But the wrong numbering remained memorised somewhere (registry or elsewhere)!
So, when I select booting from G: in boot.ini, in fact it points to O:

Is there any way to get to those wrong letters (MBR, registry, ...)

thanks for helping

I have Norton Ghost 9.00 and Magic Partition 8.0
